"When the world wearies and society fails to satisfy, there is always the garden." ~ Minnie Aumonier The month of March - it comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb. March typically starts with cold, unpleasant weather, but usually ends in mild and pleasant weather. We have a very special guest speaker for the month of March that you won't want to miss: Patricia Styles, a SLCC resident who is a life coach as well as a massage therapist who sees clients at Harmony Chiropractic in Beaumont. She will be accompanied by pharmacist, Jim McCoy. Patti Styles began her career in medicine in 1975 after graduating the top of her class as a medical assistant. She began her journey working with a group of orthopedists, learning about bones, joints, muscles, nerves, bracing and every aspect of anatomy and physiology with an emphasis on orthopedics. She worked in sports medicine at the University of Washington State as a technician alongside the University's team of physicians, who also attended to the Washington Husky sports team. She gained much experience in working with the team physicians, physical therapists, neurosurgeons, college officials, and personal athletic trainers, as well as many hospital personnel and multiple professions involving the human body in a span of over 15 years. This brought her to where she is today in therapeutic massage therapy and researching the value of drugs vs organic alternatives (CBD, THC, and essential oils). Patti attends yearly conferences involving an organization called Idea Fitness and has received certifications that allow her to teach functional aging to senior citizens, focusing on their individual condition (i.e. hospital bed, wheelchair bound, walkers, canes, post surgeries, etc.). She is presently teaching in a gated community, something as simple as getting up from a floor after falling. She has been relentless in encouraging healthy life style changes, less pharmaceutical drugs, more food and liquid choices… decreased STRESS and informed sleeping choices. Please join us as Patti shares her experiences, life choices, faith and spiritual connections and how she brings a holistic (mind, body, spirit) energy to her work and other's lives. The meeting is held on Wed., March 13 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Remember, you don't have to be a gardener to join! For membership contact Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584 or Linda Powers at (951) 769-3101. For general information contact President, Pam Mikkelsen at (951) 797-3080. Please support the Garden Club by purchasing See's Candy gift certificates from Maureen Keeney at (951) 797-0011 or Pat Newman at (951) 845-8146. Happy gardening. 46 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2019 | Garden Club
