| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2019 | 3 From the President's Desk By Sandra Moyer Have you voted yet? By the time you read this article you will have just a day or so to get your ballot in the mail. Voting for your Master Board representative is an important part of living here. The ballot box is your chance to voice your opinion about how our community is being run and determine how it will be governed over the next two years. If you have not mailed your ballot by April 1st you can deliver it to the Ballroom on election day, April 10, between 8:30 and 9 am. In addition to voting for the Master Board members you are being asked to vote on a tax issue. Revenue Ruling 70-604 is very important to Sun Lakes. By voting "approved" on this issue you are protecting our ability to file our community taxes in the most advantageous manner possible. At the open meeting in February we had an agenda item relating to the number of rental properties in Sun Lakes. The issue was brought to the Board some time ago. As a result, the Board requested a legal opinion from counsel as to what, if anything, could be done to limit rentals. Upon receipt of the legal opinion, and a recommendation from the Delegate Assembly, the Board decided the issue was so complex and controversial that they wanted to bring it to the community for their input. It was never our intent to make any decision at that meeting, only to let the community voice their opinion on whether we should consider regulating the number of rentals. A number of residents spoke to the issue, many of them with thoughtful and meaningful opinions. After a lengthy discussion, the Board decided to table the issue for future consideration. Should, at some future date, the Board decide to resurrect the issue of rental control, a Town Hall meeting will be held. I know after the wet and wild winter we have had to endure we are all looking forward to a beautiful spring and summer. I hope to see you at the upcoming events that will be held like ice cream socials, dances under the stars, movies under the stars, golf events, and many others. I for one can't wait.
