| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2019 | 15 If you have questions about golf in Sun Lakes, please call the Main Pro Shop at 845-2135 or the Executive Pro Shop at 769-8444. SLCC Golf & Pro Shop News By Al Vallecorsa, PGA Director of Golf How many times have you hit a solid iron shot and watched your ball come to rest nowhere near your intended target? One main reason is your alignment at address may be faulty. If you unwittingly align to the left or right of your target, your body will react by rerouting the club in the middle of your swing. You can't play consistent golf this way. Try this four-step alignment routine, and watch your shots land closer to your target. • Step 1 – Stand directly behind your ball and pick a specific target. Don't just aim at the green; select a tree behind the green, a shadow on the putting surface, or something else that is specific. • Step 2 – Pick an intermediate target about two to three feet in front of your ball, like a leaf, divot, or a blade of grass. It is much easier to aim at a close target than at something that is much farther away. Once you pick your immediate target, make sure the club face is aimed directly at it. • Step 3 – Step into your stance without altering your club face angle. Make sure that you have your intermediate target lined up, and then take a good look at your chosen target. Your last look should be at your final target. • Step 4 – Don't spend too much time thinking about the shot or the results. Once you're comfortable and balanced in your setup, look back at the ball and fire away. Other Notes: We are currently working on a couple of projects. First being the drainage enhancement on holes 14-16 Championship Course. We are looking to re-build the channel so water is contained and also put a pipe in front of #14 so water goes underground. We hope work could start after Charity Week. We are looking to connect cart paths on hole 14-16. We have also been approved to do more landscaping drought plantings on hole #9 championship around the new lake. We will also landscape down the left side of the fairway and also between the tee and new cart path south practice range. We are looking to repair cart path work on the exec course for cracked areas. We are looking to installing a second dress code enforced sign on the practice range. We are also looking to install a new HVAC air handler system in the pro shop; the current unit is 34 years old… Golf Rules of the month: #8 Retrieval of balls hit into water hazards must be accomplished without delaying play. "Fishing" (retrieving multiple balls) is prohibited. #17 All guests must be accompanied by a legal resident at all times while on either of the two golf courses practice areas and facilities. As a reminder: Both Golf Shops will be closed on April 30 at 1:30 pm for inventory. As always, please feel free to contact the golf shop with any questions, comments or feedback. I hope you enjoy the golf course, the club and the camaraderie of each other. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to the rest of 2019. Hit Better Irons with Proper Alignment
