CLUB BUSINESS: April 8-12: Emerald Cove, Earp, California. All spots filled! Sept. 22-27: Zion River RV Resort, Utah. Cabins available! Sign ups mid-July. NEWS AND HAPPINESS: In late February, the trip to Pala was excellent! The weather seemed to bless us with a perfect break in storms while we were there. I even got a sunburn the second day while playing outdoor games with all my RV Club buddies. Being a fairly new member, I wondered how exciting such a close destination could be. I and the members I talked to found this to be an extremely fun filled trip with just the right mix of group activities and free time. The RV park at Pala Casino Resort and Spa is only a few years young, and they did an excellent job building it. The clubhouse we rented for the week (at an affordable $25 a day) was roomy and well appointed with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, ample counter space and furniture was our base of operations. The trail bosses and their crew furnished plenty of great food, and we even had Thomas Catering provide a spread for awards day. With plenty of green areas, we enjoyed game day and free-time horseshoe games. The pool and hot tubs were put to good use by members, but we just didn't have enough time with all our other fun to play table tennis or billiards. About half of attendees played golf at beautiful Pala Mesa Resort Golf Course. It was a challenging course, but it was well worth it, and fun was had by all. Non-golfing members had fun back at the clubhouse playing card and dice games. During free time, some members enjoyed wine tasting, gambling, buffet trips, happy hours, and a member birthday party at nearby Stone Beer Brewery. An impromptu wine tasting trip was organized by a member who had so many tastings built up on his South Coast Winery member account, he was able to furnish tastings for all who attended. As mentioned in previous articles, you don't have to own an RV to be a member and enjoy the festivities and friendship. This trip, we had campers who rented RVs and some who stayed at the casino hotel. We also thank all of you who supported us by attending all of our shows and we hope you enjoyed the theater-in-the- round experience as much as we enjoyed performing up close and personal with the audience. We took a short break but are now ready to start preparations for our next Reader's Theater production of My Man Godfrey directed by Martie Steggell. Auditions will be held on April 23 and 24 at 9 am in the Bus Room and we will have parts for both men and women. If you have a desire to act or want to try it to see if you like acting, this is a good way to start since there is no memorization involved, a limited number of rehearsals, and won't require a long commitment of your time. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. If you have any interest in acting, helping backstage, volunteering for other jobs, or are just curious about what we do, come join us to see what we are all about. Join our Facebook group "Sun Lakes Playhouse" for more information as it happens. For membership information, please contact Sue Dunn at (951) 769-7552 or at alsuedunn@gmail.com.
