48 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2019 | Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info., Dee Coughtry, (951) 381-4919. Tai Chi TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) After a long winter, there's nothing more refreshing than seeing sweet signs of spring, like a flower beginning to bud or a sprout just starting to peek up through the dirt. These signs are great reminders that now is the perfect time to plant our own "Seeds of Change" by "Springing into Action" with TOPS. Spring is the season for new beginnings and new commitments. We all know that healthy habits don't just appear overnight. They need a foundation or roots to grow. Lasting change begins with small goals and simple tools for better nutrition. We would like to invite you to visit our TOPS chapter once free of charge and join us in planting "Seeds of Change" so that we may blossom into our new healthier selves by summer. We meet at the South Clubhouse each Thursday, with weigh-ins starting from 9 to 9:50 am, and meeting from 10 to 11 am. TOPS membership is only $32 a year plus a small monthly chapter fee which gives you six TOPS magazines a year and access to our TOPS website. The following TOPS members were Best Losers of the month: Lillie Brown, Linda Callahan, Renie Harrison, Marla Henrich, Ruth Schoonover and Bernie Smith. Congratulations to all of you!
