Elite Sports Clubs links playing tennis to several benefits that can improve your health, wellness, and happiness. Sharing similar interests with others is psychologically rewarding. Tennis can also be thought of as a zero calorie brain food. Playing tennis can improve critical thinking, mental alertness, and tactical thinking by fostering neural connections in the brain. Tennis also helps regulate serotonin – a brain chemical linked to functions such as sleep cycle, appetite, and your emotional state. Having trouble sleeping or keeping your emotions in check? Hit the court! Tennis helps keep your lipid profile in check. This can decrease your risk of suffering from stroke, hypertension, and cardiovascular difficulties. Tennis is a sport that increases your ability to move, change direction and stretch your body. By playing tennis on a regular basis, you will also notice an improvement in agility and flexibility. Tennis is a great cardio workout. According to the American Dietetic Association, recreational players can burn an estimated 600 – 1,320 calories per two-hour singles sessions. Moreover, tennis is a wonderful way to help combat stress. When you play tennis, your mind is forced to focus on the task at hand instead of on everyday stressors and to-do lists. Think of tennis as a little vacation for your brain. The 2019 Sun Lakes Mixed Doubles Tennis Club Championship is scheduled for April 26 – 28. This year, a 7.0 level will be used to encourage more participation and boost everyone's fun. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the South Clubhouse in mid-March. The Tournament Committee will review the teams to ensure the 7.0 level is maintained. Anyone who would like help in determining his/her level can contact Phil Hazelton. The tournament will have a single elimination format with a consolation round. The start of World Cup (Team Tennis) will be postponed until May. This is a non-competitive, free-substitution format. Each World Cup match will be followed by a pot-luck dinner at its conclusion. With over 100 members, the Sun Lakes Tennis Club offers everyone, all ages and abilities, to participate in a game that can be played regularly. Registering for Tennis Club membership is easy! Forms are available at the South Clubhouse, just inside the door by the tennis courts. Slip the registration form with your check for $10 into the box. Checks can be made out to the Sun Lakes Tennis Club. We attempted to present a good cross-section of players with varying ages, skills and abilities. Our intention has been to convince you that POP tennis is for everyone and that we have awesome, friendly members. We are about having fun, getting some good exercise, sunshine, and seeing our friends. So your age doesn't matter, your skill level doesn't matter, and your ability to play well doesn't matter. We will help you get started and we know you will quickly improve. You are always welcome. Demo paddles available. Come join us. Our scheduled court time is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 am.
