FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2019 39 After a long winter, there's nothing more refreshing than seeing sweet signs of spring, like a flower beginning to bud or a sprout just starting to peek through the dirt. Those signs are great reminders that now is the perfect time to add fresh spring produce to our meals and snacks. Members of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) challenged themselves in March to add more spring produce to their diets. That was easy for us, because living in California we are fortunate to have access to much more fresh, ripe produce than the rest of the country. We got two points per spring veggie and extra points for bringing in a new recipe including some of those vegetables, which can be less expensive in stores than those that are shipped from South America. Prizes were awarded. Why not try some of these delicious spring vegetables and fruits listed below: It was exciting to see so many new members. Welcome! The warm weather makes it easier to get out and exercise. That filled us with new resolve to live healthier lives. Join us and make a healthy difference in your life today. We meet Tuesdays at 8 am in The Lodge Ballroom. ~ Andi Henderson, (918) 497-6491 TOPS Counter Culture Cinema We show films you generally won't find at the Cineplex: documentaries, foreign language films, indie films and any other smaller films that don't get wide distribution. Our first monthly screening, on Sunday, April 14 at 6 pm, is the film What They Had (USA 2018, 1 hr. 41 min., English). Here is a brief description from Amazon.com: "From first-time writer and director Elizabeth Chomko, this captivating family drama, that will make you laugh as much as you cry, centers on a family in crisis. Bridget (two- time Oscar winner Hilary Swank) returns home to Chicago at her brother's (two-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon) urging to deal with her ailing mother (two-time Emmy Award winner Blythe Danner) and her father's (Oscar nominee Robert Forster) reluctance to let go of their life together." Our second monthly screening, on Sunday, April 28 at 6 pm, is the film Final Portrait (UK 2017, 1 hr. 30 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "In 1964, while on a short trip to Paris, the American writer and art-lover James Lord (Armie Hammer) is asked by his friend, the world-renowned artist Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush), to sit for a portrait. So begins not only the story of an offbeat friendship, but, seen through the eyes of Lord, an insight into the beauty, frustration, profundity and, at times, downright chaos of the artistic process. Final Portrait is a portrait of a genius, and of a friendship between two men who are utterly different, yet increasingly bonded through a single, ever-evolving act of creativity." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability.
