| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2019 | 15 Theatre Arts The Clan Rince Irish Dancers were very well received on their March return to Ocean Hills. We all look forward to being entertained by these young people in the not-too-distant future. On his first foray to Ocean Hills, Douglas Resenbeck will perform his piece, "A fool and his family" at our April 1 meeting. We look forward to being entertained by this Renaissance storyteller/comedian. Members only. NOTE: Members will also be able to purchase tickets for A Thurber Carnival at 6:15 am, before the meeting. Our Monday Actors' Workshop is currently at capacity and is progressing very successfully! If you are interested in being a part of this group if/when space becomes available, please contact Sally Benton (moki2@cox.net). Led by Sally Benton and Anita Simons, the Readers' Theatre group meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Mens' Club Room at 1 pm. Readings will include a variety of genres: Poetry, prose, and drama – and NO memorization! Rehearsals are in full swing for our upcoming main stage production of A Thurber Carnival, April 26 and 27. Directed by Sally Benton, our resident director, we are all excited to bring this innovative play to life. The play consists of sketches of humorous scenes from American urban life as seen through the eyes of James Thurber, one of the finest humorists of the 20th Century. In 1961, he was granted a Tony Award for his New York Broadway production of A Thurber Carnival. As a celebrated cartoonist for the New York magazine, Thurber did not disappoint us with his wit and wonderful characters, including Walter Mitty, the henpecked, daydreaming hero. Do not miss it. Come join us for a night of laughter. We need help with ticket sales (April 9 - 11, 16 - 18, 23 - 25)! Please contact Judy Harris (judyharris40@gmail.com) to volunteer. We will have one and a half hour shifts, 10 am to 1 pm on the above dates, so please volunteer. We are looking forward, with much excitement and anticipation, to another performance by OHCC's own Senior Moments Improv Troupe, at our May 6 meeting. The Troupe is currently developing a completely improvised multi-act play! Expect a preview of that on the sixth, with full performances in the fall. Our monthly meetings always have live entertainment. Now, our meetings will be even more exciting than ever! OHCC resident, Jack Landau, will be "tickling the ivories" for our listening pleasure! Speaking of which, please join us at 7 pm on the first Monday of each month in Abravanel Hall to find out what everyone else is talking about and see how much bang you get for your $10 annual dues. You can join Theatre Arts and participate in all of our entertainment and activities. You can always leave your check in our envelope at the front desk.
