14 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2019 By Sherrie Chaparro, Resident Corinne Jorgenson and Marcine Travis founded the Solera Singles group in 2009. The group started with five or six members and has grown to have a mailing list of approximately 60. Corinne stated that she originally wanted to start this group because of the help she received from a similar group at her prior residence after her husband passed away. Over the next five or six years, the group cycled through a few leaders, including Carol Jacobs, Linda Winstead and Betty Reid. After a while, interest began to wane. When Chris Fullerton became active in the group about five years ago she, with the help of Mitch Lane, started to revive it. Chris estimates that anywhere from 12 to 20 people attend their regularly scheduled events. The group has developed a good formula. They have quarterly meetings where they plan events for the next three months. A typical year contains an annual Christmas party, Halloween party, an ice cream social and a pontoon boat picnic at Diamond Valley Lake. Additionally, various members host two dinners a year, and about three appetizer/dessert pot lucks. They also schedule monthly dinners out at a local restaurant, and one or two day trips a year. They recently went to The Living Desert in Palm Springs. Chris made it clear that the group was not necessarily a place to find a new partner. Rather, because of the various events, people find they have interests in common and strong, lasting friendships develop. If you are somewhat shy about going to the Lodge on your own for our numerous parties, potlucks and entertainments, the Singles can provide an easy entry, since you will find members who will meet up with you at these events, help you find a place to sit and introduce you to new people. If you're a new resident and single, or a long-time resident who is newly single, consider contacting Kathy Caraher (kac819@hotmail.com) to be added to their email distribution list for a quarterly update of their activities.
