SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2019 7
By Dick Roppé, Resident
I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like I've been
abducted by aliens and returned to a different planet. I often
recall the "good old days" when music was performed on a stage
and the emphasis was on the music. Today, it seems as though
the music is not enough and the emphasis is on a plethora of
pyrotechnics and gaudy, projected images overwhelming the
music. Can you picture Frank Sinatra crooning My Way or New
York, New York with a barrage of bombs and flames? Not me!
One needs only to recall the last Super Bowl, or for that
matter other musical events, when fireworks occupy center
stage with the performers. Can you imagine Sesame Street
with Kermit the Frog singing It's Not Easy Being Green floating
on a lily pad and backlit with blazing green flares? Not me! I'm
getting old and I miss the planet I originally came from.
FLASH, BOOM, BAH!
