56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2019 On March 21, there were 11 off-roaders that headed south to Ocotillo Wells to finally enjoy a sunny day. The group was led by Four Seasons expert dirt driver Bob Cooper to the popular recreation area west of Salton Sea. Wildflowers were in bloom as the drivers engaged the "badlands," "pumpkin patch," and "devils slide" areas of Ocotillo Wells. Come and join us if you own a 4x4 or would like to ride along with one of our members. We meet in the Arts & Crafts Room on the second Tuesday of each month at the new time of 6 pm to plan the upcoming run on the third Thursday. Any questions can be answered by Rick Brower at (951) 255-7119 or Don Fant at (951) 381-1972. ~ Don Fant 4x4 Seasons The three Fs about Paddle Tennis that I have learned - FUN FUN FUN. When I moved here five years ago, I had never heard of paddle tennis. In my younger days I played tennis every day. Moving to California kept me too busy with family and the Air Force. Once retired, work kept me too busy to get out and play tennis. Two years after moving here, I kept hearing about pickleball and paddle tennis. Not knowing what pickleball was - the paddle tennis piqued my interest. I looked into the history of paddle tennis, which was also called platform tennis. It started back in 1928 and by 1970 there were an estimated 150,000 people playing "platform tennis." The history is long and very interesting. There is also an Association of Platform Tennis with national tournaments. Well I've been playing paddle tennis for the last three years and I LOVE it. I have found paddle tennis a perfect game. It's good for gathering with friends, socializing, playing paddle tennis, and fine tuning my game. We have tournaments amongst ourselves at least twice a year with a potluck afterwards. I encourage you to give us a try. I also play tennis and still love that game. Some of our players also play pickleball and tennis. Come on, what are you waiting for? Come play with us. Stay tuned, something new is coming! ~ Elizabeth Gallegos, ecgallegos@ outlook.com Paddle Tennis 4x4s at base of Devils Slide Fun Paddle Tennis potluck at The Lodge BBQ/Pool area in April
