58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2019 Fishing Club Hello all my fishing friends. As I mentioned in my last article, I want to tell you about the Lake Havasu Striper Derby. This derby takes place from May 17 to May 19. You can call Western Outdoors News at (877) 609-6403 for more information. This derby is really a lot of fun. You don't even have to catch a fish to win a prize. Cost of this derby is $275 for two people, and to enter you have to have a boat (rentals available). You'll also have to have accommodations for two nights. RV camping is available if you call ahead. The expected cost of this event can be around $800 for two people, but you can expect to have a lot of fun for the whole weekend. Grand prize is a $15,000 boat with the purchase of a raffle ticket. Tight lines to all my fishing friends and remember you always have a great time fishing with your good buddies. ~ Richard Carrasco, ricarrasco52@gmail.com and Diana Ali We're back to playing horseshoes every week since the rain has finally stopped. We held our First Quarter Tournament last month. Here are the results: Our Doubles Tournament was won by Dave Thomason and Paul Phamondon with second place secured by Harry Henderson and Tom Herron. Our Singles Tournament was won by Dave Thomason with second going to Hank Negrete and Dave Roland in third. Congratulations gentlemen. It was great to see our two new members Paul Phamondon and Tim Mixon getting involve and adding to the competitiveness of the club. This is where I normally say something about the social part of our club by mentioning our monthly dinner at the Bistro followed by dessert a member's home. Well, due to the deadline for this article, I have to write about it before it actually happens and I just can't give the host members the credit they truly deserve. So as of now, I will be delaying that sort of mention until the following month. Since we are playing every week again, now would be a good time to join us. We will make you feel welcome and comfortable no matter what — so join us! Come out and see what we're all about. We meet at The Summit on Wednesdays at 9 am. Our contacts are Ron Erickson at (951) 846- 3288, rejlerickson@sbcglobal.net, or Gary Christie at (951) 845-0520, goldtoy@earthlink.net. ~ Ron Erickson The Sport of Kings has arrived! That's right - Rugby is officially here. If you've always wanted to play a physically demanding sport, this is for you. Rugby is similar to football but with a lot less safety equipment. As you can see from the photo of our first match (right) there is a lot of running, clawing, and tackling involved. It's also a plus if you enjoy kicking, biting, tripping, and punching. But it's not all fun and games. We're serious competitors and play against professionals when they need a practice match. During our first ProAm game, our team suffered 17 broken hips (and that's with only 12 players!). We need more players! Are you up to it? Do you want to get some fresh air and sunshine? Are long hospital stays in your dreams? Then join us! We play every Wednesday. Just listen for the weeping and you'll find us. ~ Ragnar Danneskjöld Horseshoe Club Rugby Club Doubles winners - Paul Phamondon and Dave Thomason 2nd Place Doubles winners - Tom Herron and Harry Henderson Singles winners - 1st Place, Dave Thomason; 2nd place, Hank Negrete; and 3rd Place, Dave Roldan
