FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2019 61 Three-Thirteen Bridge For Fun It's great that we now have two bridge groups here at Four Seasons. Much thanks to Sandie Urie for starting the Monday game as both days fill up quickly, and we really needed the second group. Some bridge games are very serious and competitive. Although we all like to play well and to win, the main thing with our groups is to have fun and make some new friends. If you have always thought bridge was intimidating, you need to come check us out since we are Bridge for Fun! Both games are in the Game Room at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. For information on the Monday game contact Sandie Urie at (951) 769-8307, and for the game on Wednesday contact Verina Rector at (951) 769- 1687. ~ Tom Halley A little-known fact – Bid Whist was invented in London, England in 1529 as a game called "Trump." It was widely played in the 18th and 19th centuries. It's a game of strategy, skill, tactics, and a little luck. The game is BACK. So, if you are new to the area or the game, we welcome you. If you have been here for a few years and have played the game since 1529, we definitely welcome you. If you are just looking for a place to hang out, join us for the fun. We meet every Monday (every other Monday in the summer) from 6 to 8:30 pm in the RCN Room 3. While competitive, we are still able to chill out, eat a few snacks, have a laugh or two (usually at ourselves), and listen to some great music, while keeping our minds active. And, occasionally, we see someone bust a move. If you would like to join us, or are just looking to improve your mind and your skills, maybe we will see you there. For more info, please contact either Roxanne at (951) 797-3123 or Floyd at (951) 317-3127. ~Floyd Reid Co-ed Bid Whist Dominoes In the month of March, the weather channel reported that hurricane Larry ripped through the domino group and eliminated all of the players in his path. First he defeated John Bragg in the quarterly domino playoff for the prized personalized trophy. In doing this he won the trophy from Wondell Collins, the winner of the first quarter playoff. Second, he was the domino champion for the month of March with 25 game wins beating out Robert Turner who came in second with 21 wins. Now that the hurricane has passed maybe things will settle down. Congratulations to Larry Taylor in winning the second quarter trophy and being the domino champ for March. The next playoff for the personalized trophy will be in June. So practice, practice, practice and get ready for some more fun. Dominoes are played every Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 9 pm in The Lodge Game Room. Practice is from 5 to 6 pm on both days. Come out and join us. Have some fun and make some new friends. Jesse Dimmer is usually available to give you help and tips on the game of dominoes if needed. For more information, call Jesse at (951) 769-2035 or Reggie at (951) 769-6483. ~ Marvin Gaines We are increasing in numbers, expertise, and time spent in the Game Room. In our first April session, twelve games were played by 24 people at six tables. Brenda Brazeal took first place for lowest score of the day with 35 points. Frances Monahan took second place with 46 points over husband Jerry, who came in third with 51. Other game winners with slightly higher scores included Kaye Harvey and Marty Rotman (both self-professed rookies but we're wondering about that), Pam Hawn, Leona Davisson, John Clark, Gordon Shepard, Linda Clark, and Mike Corbett. We're having so much fun we decided to add an additional session and are now playing the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 3 to 5 pm. Three-Thirteen is played in 11 rounds. A cross between rummy and Phase 10, players meld, using runs and sets. The first player to go out receives no points. Then players have an opportunity to play on the cards laid down and their own cards. Each round uses a progressive, new wild card. There are not a lot of rules to remember, and most folks will tell you the most difficult part of the game is remembering what the wild card is for a particular round. Anyone interested in learning how to play this fast-paced card game can join us at The Lodge or contact Mike Corbett at micedcor1@ gmail.com. ~ Kris Corbett March champion Larry Taylor
