| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2019 | 15 If you have questions about golf in Sun Lakes, please call the Main Pro Shop at 845-2135 or the Executive Pro Shop at 769-8444. SLCC Golf & Pro Shop News By Al Vallecorsa, PGA Director of Golf Happy spring! What a winter… last year in 2018 we had six frost delays. This year 2019 since January we had 41 (not a typo) days where frost, rain, (yes) snow, cold, wind, wet conditions caused the course to be unplayable. Just unreal! I thought this was SoCal. The good news is if you have an annual and play three days a week starting now each round is around $17. Still a bargain to play great Sun Lakes. So get out there and play! A couple of notes/comments for the next few months: Playing after hours: Now that we are getting longer days, if you go out, remember to sign the after-hours sheet. Failing to do so will get you a fine of $50, a violation from the GAC and you still pay the twilight rate. Please sign your full name, cart number, and time. If you have guests please list those clearly. Also, please check the appropriate box, A is annual, N is non-annual, G is if you have a guest. You can also leave a voice mail on the shop phone before you play if you are not near the first tee, the phone lists the time you called. Reserving rental carts: The club has 10 rental carts and 99% of the time all 10 are running. However, these are first come first served basis. If you have guests or need a cart please call in advance to reserve one. If not, there is a chance, slight but a chance they all may be rented, this would tend to be more on holiday weekends. If you call us we can hold one for you. Charity shirts: Charity shirts will be available for purchase in the main golf shop in a couple of weeks. The cost is $28 plus tax each. This year the shirts will be white and the logo/theme is Fab 60s. Please come and support the charity and purchase a shirt. If you are signed up for the Pro-Am you will be getting one. #9 Lake/Landscaping: The lake is finished and the landscaping has begun. Landscaping will be going around the lake, down the fairway and in between the tee and the new cart path adjacent the back end of the range. The one problem that I see is that we now have another signature hole… Good and improvement: Based on the amount of rain we received we figured we would have more weeds. The pre-emergent worked pretty well. We will spot treat those areas that were missed. Bird droppings - hmm not as many coots this year as we have relocated them. Droppings not as bad as in prior years, good. Greens-as good as you find anywhere and we hear it often, good. The pros love coming to the Pro-Am to get their putter tested. The recent aerification should make them a little softer. Bunkers - drained well but greenside ones can always use more improvement. Best way to rake them is to "hand rake" them. We do not as it takes time/personnel. The fairway bunkers are set up to be more firm so it is easier to get out. HVAC Golf Shop: We have obtained bids to redo the HVAC unit in the golf shop and should the Master Board approve the conversion a new unit will get installed. This item is in the reserves for 2019 and is the original piece of equipment. The golf shop could have some construction going on for 10 days. As always, please feel free to contact the golf shop with any questions, comments or feedback. I hope you enjoy the golf course, the club and the camaraderie of each other. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to the rest of 2019. A Few Notes...
