| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2019 | 65 Friends we will miss Jack Allen Vodrey 92, of Banning, California, died March 7, 2019, in the hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 25, 1926, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the son of the late Myrtle and Frederick Vodrey. He was the younger brother of the late Bruce Vodrey of British Columbia. In 1951 Jack proposed to Daphne Ann Goulding in Winnipeg, then he moved to San Francisco to make his way in the world, returning a year later to marry her and bring her to their new home in California. They had four children and lived in Linda Mar, Ca., San Bruno, Ca, and Flossmoor, Il, Tustin, Ca and moved to Sun Lakes in Banning, in 1990. She predeceased him in 2001. He worked as a salesman for National Cash Register, as a sales manager then as vice-president for Federal Sign and Signal, worked in the sign programs for Carl Karcher Enterprises and Quiel Brothers and had his own sign company, Sign Design. He attended University of Manitoba and more recently in his late 80s, he discovered Mt. San Jacinto Community College with his son, and received excellent marks. He was looking forward to taking a Political Science Class after exhausting four history courses, two anthropology courses and a geography class. He loved music, gardening, making ship models, doing stained glass, and won many ribbons. He also loved dancing. He helped found the ICC dance club. He was a precinct captain and put flags up and trees up, depending on the season. He worked to resurrect the annual golf cart parade. He was interested in genealogy and wrote his own life story. He was a member of the bike club. He is survived by his four children and their partners, his five grandchildren and their partners and his eight great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his friend Lady, adopted from The Ramona Animal Shelter. Sadly, Jack's big red Republican "Build The Wall" mug, arrived after he passed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Republican Party or the Ramona Animal Shelter. He preferred the optimistic point of view, and was grateful for his home and his family. Gene Wilcox, 81, affectionately known as "Geno," passed away peacefully on April 8, 2019. Born in Pleasant Grove AR, Gene, was an active member of Holtville, CA. He was owner of Gene Wilcox Insurance. Living in Holtville CA, he enjoyed coaching Little League, and was a Boy Scout Leader. Gene served in the Optimist Club, was president of the Holtville Rotary, a Master Mason, and president of the Chamber of Commerce. In 2003, he was awarded the honor of Grand Marshal in the Holtville parade. Gene believed moving to Sun Lakes, with his wife Joyce, was one of his wisest decisions. He especially enjoyed golfing with his buddies, fishing with his friend John Creviston, and long walks with his friend Bob Henrich. Gene is survived by his wife, Joyce, his daughter, Kellie Ames, and her husband, Mark; his son, Michael Wilcox, and his wife, Traci; his four grandchildren, Travis and Taylor Wilcox, Hunter and Emmerson Ames; his two brothers, J.D. Wilcox and David Wilcox; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends. To all those who knew him, he was a gentle soul, who deeply loved his family and friends. He lived an honorable life, and will be truly missed.
