The 35th Anniversary Celebration gets started off with the famous Chubby Checker performing on May 4, sponsored by OHSPA. The Health, Welfare & Lifestyle Fair begins at 12 noon on May 5. This will include guest speakers, hearing analysis, live music, art and sewing displays, cake and champagne. We have an assortment of food trucks and over 25 vendors exhibiting their businesses in Abravanel Hall. The 35th Anniversary books will be distributed from 12 to 4 pm in the Library. If you had a photo taken by Lifetouch, come by and pick up your FREE book. Extras will be available to purchase for $15 each. Please come out and support your 35th Anniversary Committee. We encourage the use of golf carts, walking, and hopping on our shuttle, as it navigates the Village. The shuttle map and the itinerary of the day's activities have been publicized in the April and May issues of the OHCC Living. The Pop-up Food Services continue to thrive and so far, we have had four vendors that have offered their services. The hunt for new vendors continues and the Monday event seems to be evolving with each week, new customers are coming for their dinners. We had hoped this would provide an alternative to cooking for those that need a break. Several types of foods have been suggested from tacos, to BBQ, to Hawaiian, and we are taking them all up for consideration. Just look for the balloons on Leisure Village Way to say, "Today Is Pop-Up Day!" The Spring Choral Concert put on by our Choral Society is Sun., May 19, at 2 pm. Refreshments will be provided by the Recreation Department. Let us show our appreciation by attending their presentation of "Music Through The Years." Our new coffee brewer for the Clubhouse is on its way. Upon installation, there will be a period of adjustment to using this state- of-the-art coffee machine. Please ask questions, as the staff will be briefed on its operation and we will gladly assist anyone who needs our help. Our regular coffee service, brewed in our commercial kitchen urn will continue for clubs, groups, and functions that are larger in nature. So get ready for a cup of good 'ole Joe, be prepared to pay the $1 per cup. The coffee will certainly be a welcomed addition and a good start to the day! We hoped the community enjoyed our Spring Eggstravaganza. It was a beautiful time for the members and their families. Thank you to our entire staff for their preparation, Cox Communications for their sponsorship, AV committee members for their videotaping the event, and to all the delightful children who make this day one of our best. A special thanks to "Hip Hop the Bunny." It is always a secret, as to who has stepped into the costume for the event, and it will remain that way until next year? A staff position is currently open on Facilities, as Nathan was accepted into the police academy and is on his way to pursuing a new career. We wished him well and we thanked him for his service to OHCC. Here's wishing all our moms a Happy Mother's Day on Sun., May 12. It's the busiest brunch day of the year. So celebrate on Saturday, this seems to be a great alternative to waiting in the lobby of a local restaurant. Moms just want to be loved anytime, anywhere, and any place! "If evolution really works, why is it mothers only have two hands?" ~ Milton Berle Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2019 |29
