The team of Lu Seymour, Lisa Korbel, Carolee Matthews & Jerry Pardue are still clinging to a slight lead after 20 weeks of competition with the Surprises (Terry & Ross Prather, Hal Taylor & Tony Campana) continuing to breathe down their neck and moving into third place is Spare Partz (Rae Hayes, Joni Rhodes, Burt Garbell & Paul Garcia). With the league scheduled to end in mid-April, this 18 team league of seniors will probably reflect many changes before entering into the final week of sweepstakes. Again we had a great turn out with many participants and spectators. This is a fun league with all levels of play and with player substitution allowed. There are four teams: Team Portugal/Captain Dave Huetten; Team England/Captain Jeff Gorman; Team Croatia/Captain Pat Shibata; and Team Italy/Captain Peggy Huetten. We currently have 65 members signed up for this exciting new league. Anyone interested in joining this league, please contact Michele Walter at 845-2002. Please come and cheer on this new fun league! The Sun Lakes women are now playing in the USTA Winter League 3.5 40 and over division. Come support our women at the following home matches: 3/2 and 3/9 all matches are on Saturdays at 12 pm. There is an opportunity for all members to participate in a trip to China. The 2013 Trip to China is 15 days from April 7 to April 22. This is a once in a life time opportunity, during the trip you will be able to spend three days with a host family in Nanjing, China. We will also be able to play tennis against local club members in Nanjing. The tour will include visits to Shanghai, Wuzhen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, Beijing and Lijiang. The estimated cost is only $3,200 pp and this includes airfares, train fare, buses, and stay in four star hotels, English speaking tour guides, insurance and some meals. If so, weekly matches are scheduled each Wednesday at 2 pm at the south courts. These games are open to all tennis members. Info., Bill Lawrence, 769-3877. The BNP Paribas Open starts Mon., March 4. March 4 and March 5 are free admission. We are hoping to take a group there on the first day March 4. Anyone interested in going down to watch some great tennis at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden contact Michele Walter 845-2002. We can meet at the south courts and car pool there. Don���t forget to sign up for our St. Patrick���s Day mixer and dinner event on Wed., March 20. Come and enjoy corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. BYOB and please bring a dessert to share. The mixer will start at 5 pm and dinner to follow around 6:30 pm. Please sign up inside the South Clubhouse.
