Friends we will miss Irene Elizabeth Hall, age 87, passed away January 4, 2013. She was born in Berlin, Germany, on April 8, 1925, and came to America in the 1950s. She and her first husband, Detloff Arsetti, were plate twirler entertainers. They traveled with the Globetrotters and the Ringling Brothers Circus and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show several times. She became an American citizen in the 1970s, teaching herself English on American TV. She and her second husband, Joseph Hall, a retired attorney, moved to Sun Lakes about 1990. They were active golfers and loved the lifestyles in Sun Lakes. Joe passed away about 20 years ago. She was not well the last few years of her life, but managed to get around in her car, golf cart and with two canes. She loved crossword puzzles and was a strong-willed woman. She left no family.. John Peter Lay passed away on January 22, 2013, at Loma Linda University Medical Center, his wife and family members by his side. John was born on November 18, 1936, in Abingdon, England, he met and married his wife Eileen on March 14, 1959. John came to the U.S. with Eileen and their two daughters Michelle and Natalie, in 1964. John and Eileen moved to Sun Lakes in 1993 and enjoyed golfing with friends several times a week and with family as often as possible. He spent his retirement years enjoying his family, especially his son-in-laws Jim and Ken, and grandchildren Kayla, Kevin, Dannika, Konnor, Logan, and Landon, whom he absolutely adored. His family would like to thank everyone for attending his Celebration of Life Service in January and for all the phone calls, cards, flowers and other expressions of support for the family, it only reinforces how loved and respected he was. He will be truly missed by all. Jack Russell Piercy, July 19, 1930 - January 20, 2013. Jack is survived by his wife, Carol, his three daughters and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Richard. After battling health issues, Jack slipped quietly away with family at his side. Jack and his wife, Carol have been longtime residents of Sun Lakes. In addition to their many special friendships, they enjoyed trips together, traveling many miles in their motor home and most recently enjoying a Mexican cruise with family. Jacks warmth and love for his family and friends enriched the lives of everyone around him. Those who knew him will forever remember his sense of caring and humor. In his last days, he made his presence felt, cheering loudly for the football games on his television in ICU and dressing up as a Christmas elf for dialysis. Jack loved to reminisce about the special times he shared with his family, reveling in his love for his children and grandchildren, taking special pleasure in shared laughter. He had a soft spot for his pets, who adored him. Jack was active for many years in the water aerobics class at Sun Lakes, loved his poker group and found support in his buddies at his support group at the VA. Jack will long be remembered. His love remains with those he left behind. Bruce Tierney slipped away comfortably the morning of January 24, 2013, in Kaiser/Fontana Hospital. Cancer quickly took his life. Bruce and his wife, Marcy, moved to California in 1998 from Olathe, Kansas to be closer to their daughters and enjoy the sunny southern California climate. It gives us pleasure that Bruce enjoyed his recent retirement years with his wife, golfing and hitting not one, but two holes in one, his weekly motorcycle rides with his close friends and the occasional trip to play the slots. His move to Sun Lakes Country Club in 2006 brought much joy to Bruce. Making a core group of friends provided him with a sense of community, laughter and support. Bruce enjoyed reading, home improvement projects, NASCAR, college and pro football (always cheering for his alma mater, Kansas State University). All of our family gatherings from when Bruce and Marcy first met to our days in the hospital would erupt with laughter and were filled with joy. As most people know, Bruce was a man of few words, but he certainly knew how to make the most of those words. Nothing pleased him more than picking on Marcy and making everyone laugh. Bruce is survived by his wife, Marcy; daughters and son-in-law, Gail and Tim Davis and Melissa Orr; his grandsons, Cameron and Dyton Orr; his siblings from Kansas, Judie Waller and Tim Tierney and from Missouri, Carol and Gary Conkling; his nieces and nephews, Gary Conkling, Jr, Tellen Oots, Chad Conkling, Ted Conkling, Ron Waller and Grace Ann Tierney; his great nieces and nephews, Kaytlin Conkling, Kelena and Bryson Oots, Blake and Tierani Conkling and his many friends in Sun Lakes. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Grace Tierney and his brother, Gerald Tierney. May he rest in peace.
