Emergency Preparedness Program (EPP) Neighborhood Watch Thanks to all who came to our February meeting, especially all new Block Captains. They are a vital part of our community and the eyes and ears for our program. The Block Captain is an integral component to keeping the block actively involved in Safety and Crime Prevention efforts as well as the important process of information exchange between neighbors. How successful they are depends on the Block Captains and the support he or she receives from neighbors. Our next meeting for all will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 10 am, in the Ballroom. This will be the first of our new quarterly meetings. We will discontinue the Friday meeting enabling others to attend who maybe could not come to a Friday meeting. Please mark your calendars. A guest speaker will be scheduled for that meeting along with our resident speaker Dennis Gray. More information on this in the next Breeze. Our National Night Out potluck will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6 14 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2013 | community News pm in the Ballroom. Please mark your calendars for this yearly event. National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. This will be the 30th annual National Night Out nationwide and promises to be a fun and informative event with many guest speakers from agencies in and around the city. We are still recruiting Block Captains as our community continues to grow, if you are interested in participating please contact Susan Wilson or Dennis Gray. ~ Susan Wilson We meet the first Thursday of each month at 10:30 am in the Lodge Ballroom. Our Emergency Preparedness Program is growing with residents becoming members of our Action Teams and most important being trained in the CERT Program. Being educated about individual protection and preparedness is always our first and foremost focus. When you know what to do then you are able to help yourself as well as others. We have team leaders for our various action groups in case of an emergency or disaster. At our February meeting, we had a presentation about transportation. March will be very interesting and interactive with the Communication Team presenting and demonstrating how they will interact in an Emergency. Do you have a radio? Tip of the Month: always rotate your supplies. Check the expiration date of medicines, water and even food that you have in your cabinet as they could be out of date. This information was shared by the First Aid Team leader, Pam Morales. We will talk more about this at our March meeting. See the special article on our most successful Expo. Come join us at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 7, in the Lodge Ballroom. ~ Anita Worthen Sharon Geiser, Jean Sandoval and Sally Peterson Community News | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2013 15
