Were you there? Did you get to experience "The Night They Raided Smitsky's" show? There were so many acts worthy of special mention, but to highlight some… the 10 women singing and dancing to "Cell Block Tango" from the Broadway musical, Chicago; The Real Men of Four Seasons who never disappoint; The Four Seasons Singers Choir opening the show with Anything Goes; Marianne Bugni doing a routine about her new husband's detachable parts; and, of course, the male pole dancer, and our wonderful line dancers. Unfortunately I don't have enough room to list each act by name, although they all deserve mention. It was another free blockbuster show produced by John Horning and Paula Drake. Radio Show Auditions will be Thursday, June 6 at 5 pm in The Lodge Movie Theater. In order to have a successful Radio Show, we need to have the right actors in the right parts. To reach that goal, we will be holding auditions. Why audition? It's the easiest way to be part of The Performing Arts Club. In addition, unlike a play, you don't need to memorize your part, you read/act from your script. There are bigger and smaller parts, each being integral to the story and all are important. The people involved are all nice and it is fun to do. So come on out to the auditions, whether you've tried out before or if this is your first time. I hope to see you there. The Radio Show, produced by Tom Shelley, will be performed on Saturday, July 27 at 6 pm. Back in the 1930s through the early 1950s, it was common for families to gather around the radio to listen to their favorite weekly serial shows. The producers of the radio shows hired experienced actors to read and act their lines directly from their scripts while standing in front of microphones in front of a limited, small, live audience. They also used sound effects to enhance the stories. The Performing Arts Club is putting on these shows to give our audience a glimpse into what it would have been like to go back approximately 70 years, and to be sitting in the live audience. Besides, the stories are fun, too! We can only ever expect to learn a few. All have varying degrees of difficulty and speed. In line dancing some of the steps come in groups, each with its own name. Once you have a grasp of the basic moves, learning new dances becomes easier. Some steps are written for one piece of music while others can be danced to many different tracks. Some tracks can be used for different dances. Some dances we teach are popular at clubs and social events, so you'll be able to join in. Line dancing can be good for you, physically, mentally and spiritually. It can help keep joints supple and build up strength in your leg muscles; it's good for the heart and lungs; memorizing the step patterns exercises your brain; and it is just GOOD FUN! You will find line dancers very friendly and happy to guide a novice. If you've never line danced before, give yourself a break – don't expect to learn everything in one class. Keep at it and you'll get it. And, line dancing is supported by several medical charities including the Heart Foundation and National Osteoporosis Society. What to wear? Lots of layers. When you dance (exercise) you get warm, when you sit down you get cold. Be prepared. Comfortable shoes, tennis shoes (sneakers), some dancers where dance shoes, but never flip-flops. What to bring? Water. You can become dehydrated during physical exercise, so it is a good idea to drink plenty before, during, and after dancing (exercising). Heart and Soul Line Dance meets each Wednesday in the Ballroom with beginners at 4 pm. Should you have any questions, feel free to call/text me (909) 239-6464, or email (hotgrani@aol.com). See you on the dance floor. ~ Priscilla Robles (951) 922-0755
