FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2019 43 Let's Dance (ballroom dance) Step It Up Line Dancing Country Line Dancing Our dance group had fun dancing the Rumba and Bolero in May. We are looking forward to learning the Waltz and Viennese Waltz in June. The Waltz is a graceful dance characterized by its rise and fall. It has flowing, slower movements that couples always enjoy – almost as if floating around the ballroom floor. The Viennese Waltz is a lovely, faster-paced twirling dance. Both versions have become favorites of our Four Seasons Let's Dance members. We have really been enjoying our monthly "Dance Party Practices" in a night club atmosphere. These are open to current and past members of the Let's Dance group and are offered at no charge. We have welcomed back some of our past members for a fun evening of dance. We also offer weekly practice sessions to sharpen your dance skills. Reminder… our Summer Fun Dinner and Dance will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Ballroom. Watch for a poster with more details in The Lodge Lobby near the end of June. We welcome you to join us in the Ballroom on Monday nights from 6 to 7 pm for Beginners and Newcomers, and 7 to 8 pm for Intermediate and Advanced. The cost is $10 per person, with our professional instructors. You will be glad you did! For more information, contact Puring or Gary Stifter at (951) 922- 8333, or purings@verizon.net. ~ Sue Condurachi We all know we are getting older, but we all want to put off aging as long as we possibly can. Medical professionals tell us two activities help us to do that. The first is keeping your brain active and challenged. You can do that by trying new things or working on puzzles. The second is staying physically active. Line dancing lets you do both at once. Dancing is a form of exercise, but also stimulates your brain. Steps in each dance are different and often in a different order. It takes real concentration to do the right steps to each dance. We actually memorize the steps until we really know them so well we can do them in our sleep. Once the music starts, muscle memory takes over and your feet almost automatically do the correct steps for that dance in the correct sequence. But it takes a while to get to that point. You need to come to classes to learn the dances, then practice them over and over so you really know them. By coming to dance class you meet some wonderful, friendly, and very happy people. Music is good for the soul. It helps you deal with the everyday problems we each face. It is hard to be terribly unhappy when upbeat music starts. So, come give it a try. It may not be for you, but maybe it is, and you simply have not explored the possibility yet. Each class is making progress weekly and learning new dances while dancing to old favorites. We had a great time dancing to our favorites at our April dance party. Our next dance party is July12, so mark your calendar now. Everyone is welcome to attend. Watch for more information in the July Breeze. Hope to meet you on the dance floor! Martha Franck, (714) 345- 8588. ~ Martha Franck Wow — what a great time we had at the Barn Burner event! Jed, Elly May, Jethro, and particularly Granny would have been proud of all of the redneck hillbillies. Thanks so much to all of you who attended the event and to those that participated in the costume contest and Yee-Haw talent part of the night. Congratulations to the winners of the costume contest, Shelly and Marty, as they truly exemplified what it means to be a redneck! For their efforts they were awarded a six-pack of Bud Light, a bag of tater tots, a Slim Jim (not spicy type) a Dickeys BBQ gift card, and the distinguished Walmart gift card! The redneck horse race was very close but had David Burchartz not been bucked off twice by that nasty little filly, I think it would have been a photo finish. The dance floor was full most of the night as all of the attendees were ready to try out all of the new dances they had recently learned. As a reminder, classes are held on Mondays in the Ballroom with LD101, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, and beginners from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Warning! You should not come if you don't want to have fun! Don't forget the next Step It Up Barn Dance Party on June 21. It will be a summer beach themed potluck party so get on your Hawaiian shirt, shorts and cowboy boots! It's a good look. The party will start at 4:30 pm. ~ Janine Rohrbacker, Dave.Rohrbacker@redhawkus.com Marty and Shelley goin' redneck! Marty
