24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2019 You Can Save Your Life for $5: Do you wear or carry identification (ID) while participating in exercise activities? You should. What if there was an unexpected accident while walking, running or cycling, and you had no ID with you? You would be in bad shape. Nobody would know who you were, or whom to contact. Did you know that each year throughout the United States, more than 450,000 people are taken to hospitals in an unconscious state, and without having ID on them? Well, guess what? Our Four Seasons community is part of that alarming statistic. After falling, one of our residents was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state. He was not carrying ID, so he was admitted as a John Doe. Eventually, he was found by his family, identified, and received appropriate care. ID is important for us to carry at all times. Here are some reasons: • Your ID will speak for you when you cannot. • First responders will be able to contact family members and/or friends. • If your ID contains information regarding a medical condition, that information will assist medical staff. • ID can prevent serious delays in treatment during the "golden hour" of medical treatment. Online, eBay sells a whole range of personal and wearable ID. Search for custom medical bracelets. In addition to bracelets, there are dog tags, and even a card that can be customized to suit your needs. Prices start at $5. Your ID should contain your name, phone number, delegated contact information, and medical condition or allergy, and your blood type, if possible. Even carrying a slip of paper, or a card that has your important information, will work. It is far better to have ID with you and never need it, than to need ID and not have it. Remember identification information can help save a life and that life, could be yours. It is that important. The Safety Committee would like to remind all residents entering and exiting the Crooked Creek gate to be careful, exercise patience, and show courtesy toward others who are entering and exiting the same gate. That is the neighborly thing to do. The committee also asks drivers to slow down, and obey all speed limits and traffic signs. The speed limit is 30 mph on Four Seasons Circle and 25 mph on all other side streets. Please do not speed. For those who walk, please walk on the sidewalks and/or trails. Do not walk on the streets, and you are reminded to use the crosswalks to cross the streets. If you are walking at night, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Also remember, if you see something suspicious, call Beaumont Police at (951) 769-8500 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies. The Safety Committee meets in the RCN Conference Room first Tuesday of the month at 10 am. All are welcome. ~ Kaye Harvey, teachharvey@yahoo.com Safety Committee
