By Dick Roppé, Resident Do you have a blocked waterline in your refrigerator? Some time ago, we had a waterline that stopped working. What to do? We set up up a service call that ran about $90. No parts were required but there was a labor charge for clearing the line. We were told to leave the dispenser light on to keep the line from freezing up. That worked. For a while! It recently happened again. Back to the drawing board. It was time for Google. After a quick search I found a device on Amazon called Waterline Buddy. It cost about $12 so I ordered one. The device was a plastic tube attached to a syringe. I followed the directions and after a few little "squirts," voila! The line was cleared. This was the ideal DIY project. We now keep the light on and my Waterline Buddy is ready for the next big freeze. The Big Freeze SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2019 11 By Resident Sharon Cates On May 7, residents gathered in the Lodge Ballroom for SDV's version of the television show Antiques Roadshow. Participants brought their keepsakes and treasures one by one to certified appraiser Sabrina Chapman of Finders Keepers Estate Services for an assessment of their value. Items were examined for authenticity and flaws. She viewed 30 items and the range of value of the individual objects was from $75 to $4,500. Several people were surprised at the age of their item and its appraised worth. A most valuable Eastern Orthodox silver icon was submitted by Alex Jeric. Alex described the icon as, "A depiction of the Mother of God holding the child Jesus." It has been passed down through the years by family members and was originally owned by Alex's great- great-grandmother. The appraiser verified that it was Provincial Russian from the early 1800s. Berkie Harris presented a colorful teak wood tray. What made it so original was the design was made from butterfly wings. Sabrina said it was from Brazil and valued at $75. This was a successful and entertaining event and attendees cheered when it was announced there would be another in the near future. I know I will be checking my storage closet for any keepsakes acquired over the years. How about you? The Antiques Roadshow
