The month of May began with the 35th Anniversary Celebration. This community was dedicated on May 5, 1984, with the dedication address given by General Alexander M. Haig, Jr. The 35th Anniversary Committee worked for months on this event and they were able to provide an event that will long be remembered. After an energized performance with a group of twisting attendees, the personable Chubby Checker met with residents for photos while enjoying champagne and cake in the Galleria. On Sun., May 5, the shuttle was kept busy ferrying fair goers to the Clubhouse. Burgers, pork sandwiches, fries, and ice cream were served up on the asphalt. Residents filled their bags with a variety of information from the Hall exhibitors. The Anniversary Books were given out in the Library. Our thanks to the entire 35th Anniversary Committee for their willing attitudes and dedicated commitment throughout the two years of planning. Anniversary Books are still available at the front desk. With so much excitement we have all settled down and we will have time to reflect. A thought comes to mind - will someone be willing to chair the 40th? Only five years will tell! The Fourth of July "Flamingle" Barbecue and Dance is on the books and the tickets are being sold at $36 per person. This poolside event is sponsored by the Recreation Department each year. For attendants, we will have prizes in three categories: most patriotic, most attractive, and the most creative attire. Dinner, dessert, and beverages will be provided. This is a BYOB event. Look for the flyer within this publication for more information. June is the beginning of the swim season. Resident volunteers offer a free Swim Clinic to members for those who want to learn to swim or perhaps improve on their strokes. It has been very successful over the years and the instructors come from various aquatic backgrounds. The clinic begins June 15 and continues to July 13 at 9:30 am, contact ohccswimclub@gmail.com, if interested. The pool is reserved for the clinic instruction at this time. As the pool season takes off, please remember to shower before entering, treat other swimmers with respect, no bandages or band aids, no food or drinks (water is fine), and swim with a smile! Be sure to calendar in the two Recreation Department's Ice Cream Socials planned for Fri., July 26 and Mon., Aug. 26. We are looking forward to when the weather is warm and sunny. Rain or shine, the Recreation Department has been known to scoop for 250 eager ice cream lovers. Let us introduce the newest member of our team, Charlie Losito. Charlie is from Massachusetts and he has worked in administrative services. He enjoys people and pottery. Charlie works three nights at the Front Desk of the Clubhouse. We appreciate Charlie's enthusiasm and friendly nature. Welcome him when visiting the Clubhouse, he is on the schedule for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings. Happy Father's Day to all OHCC dads! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2019 |25 Our newest member of our team Charlie Losito Due to the popularity of our facility, we highly recommend calling the front desk at (760) 758-8772 to check on availability. The majority of our 2019 reservations (over 12,500) were made during the last quarter of 2018. The demand is so high that most of the card players will be sharing the rooms in the Clubhouse. It's a great way to get to know those with similar interests. It truly is a happening place, inside and out. CLUBHOUSE USAGE
