Many thanks go out to all the members of the Theatre Arts Club, who were involved in the production of A Thurber Carnival, directed by our own Sally Benton. We especially appreciate the innumerable hours contributed by the members and staff of the Audio Video Committee who were involved in the production. In addition, we cannot forget to thank the community, without whose support this show would have been impossible. Theater Arts Club members had a real treat Monday evening, May 6, as OHCC's own Senior Moments Improv' Troupe performed a show that included both short-form comedic skits and long-form dramatic scenes. Completely unscripted, this was a unique and compelling night of theater. All residents of OHCC will be able to see them perform again in November - stay tuned for more information! A reminder: Our Monday Actors' Workshop will "go dark" the months of June, July, and August. Look for word of ramping back up come September. At that time, we will hopefully have space for new participants. The Readers' Theatre group meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the Mens' Club Room at 1 pm. Co-leaders, Sally Benton and Anita Simons, tell us that readings will include a variety of genres: Poetry, prose, and drama – and NO MEMORIZATION! We look forward to their performance in October. Please consider signing up for Audio Video Training Sessions, which are held on the third Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6 pm in Abravanel Hall. The focus May 15, session was on video. The A/V committee has contributed so much to the success of our programs, we should make a concerted effort to be a part of both, or at least have a working knowledge of what A/V does. On Mon., June 3, at 5:30 pm in Abravanel Hall, the doors open for our annual summer party. This year's theme is "Aloha Summer." We will dine to delicious fare from Bobby's Hideaway, dance to the music of Music Station, and enjoy some extra special entertainment, all for the sum of $30 for members/$35 for non-members. The room will be set up with tables of 10. Keep your eyes on your tubes for more details. The entire community is invited to our Sept. 2 meeting, where the talented Richard Lederer will entertain us. He is an author, speaker, and teacher. Best known for his books on the English language, including topics such as puns, oxymorons and anagrams, he refers to himself as "The Wizard of Idiom," "Attila the Pun," and "Conan the Grammarian." His weekly column, Looking at Language, is syndicated in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States. You should not miss this show! We are working on the preparation for our fall show. Anyone interested in participating in the show should plan to come to the auditions on Mon., July 8. More details will follow. We are fortunate to have Jack Landau provide live music before our monthly meetings. Please join us at 7 pm on the first Monday of each month in Abravanel Hall to find out what everyone else is talking about and see how much bang you get for your $10 annual dues. You can join Theatre Arts and participate in all of our entertainment and activities. You can always leave your check in our envelope at the front desk.
