| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2019 | 43 By Ellen Baur, Chair, 35th Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee The 35th Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee sprang to life when the Master Board officially created our committee at their regular board meeting on Oct. 19, 2017 and appointed me as the Chair. Our 35th Anniversary date was May 5, 2019, so we had an early start. Our committee met for the first time on Nov. 30, 2017! Having chaired the two previous Ad Hoc Anniversary Committees, I quickly set to work to form the 35TH committee. Thankfully, members of our previous Anniversary Committees volunteered to work with me and some new volunteers also came on board: Judy Harris, Co-Chair; Judy Buoniconti, Christy Cooper, Jean Hefler, Kathy Lapin, Kaye Preston, Donna Russell, and Patti Smith. Christy Cooper, our fabulously talented and professional graphic designer, agreed to once again be in charge of our gorgeous and informative Anniversary Book! The beautiful cover photo on the Anniversary Book was taken by OHCC photographer Bud DeMaris, and Christy used her graphic design prowess to enhance and alter the photo for an oil painting effect. We used the picture for the May issue of OHCC Living, mugs, totes, and magnetic clips. Kaye Preston and Judy Harris once again took over the organization of the Lifetouch photo sessions. Donna Russell, President of OHSPA (Ocean Hills Society of Performing Arts), had already booked Chubby Checker in Concert for May 4, 2019, and agreed not only to include the show as part of our anniversary celebration, Donna joined our Committee. Patti Smith, OHCC photographer-par-excellence and omnipresent at OHCC gatherings, signed on to be our official photographer. She took many of the photos in the anniversary book and during our anniversary weekend. Judy Buoniconti, Jean Hefler, Kathy Lapin, and Judy Harris took care of a non-ending array of decisions and chores. Chris Bessey, our Recreation Director and Staff Liaison to our committee, was always at our meetings, always there for us to fulfill our wishes and make things happen. Without Chris, there would not have been the terrific Anniversary celebration… It was her suggestion! She is worth more than gold, and we are most grateful that Chris worked with us. She has been our tireless and all-knowing guardian angel! And we appreciate the hard work of her Clubhouse staff. Angie Ripsco, Events Coordinator, has been ever supportive and caring and always ready to pitch in. She did a splendid job on our anniversary weekend. We are very appreciative of Angie. Courtney Taylor, the Publisher of our OHCC Living, and a great graphic designer, was a tremendous help. She arranged for the beautiful mugs we have been selling, she set-up our latest flyer and created the beautiful two-page spread about the events for our 35th Anniversary, and, overall, supported our efforts. The wonderful Bob Herrmann, AV chair, and competent and knowledgeable staff AV Liaison, Anthony Scalise, were there for us when we needed to spread the word about the OHCC Anniversary celebrations. They made it possible for us to do an Infomercial, shown on OHCC-TV and via the OHCC website platform. In addition, AV's Wendy Katz and Rob Schoonover covered the May 5 celebration with interviews and video, and an AV back-up team, most of whom had also worked the OHSPA Chubby Checker performance on May 4: Joan Bivin, Janice Hart, Jim Kaminsky, Steve Malone, Gail Myams, Rob and Sandy Schoonover, Rick Thatcher, Myrna Weber, Doug Wright and, of course, Bob Herrmann, and Anthony Scalise. We thank them all so very much! We were also recipients of TLC from Heather Podwoski, HOA Office Manager, with regard to distribution of flyers and eblasts. Many thanks, too, to resident volunteers helping with the photo sessions and on May 5 with book distribution! We are so grateful for all the wonderful help! Our OHCC 35TH Anniversary celebration was a huge success, we had a full house of 500 people for the Chubby Checker in Concert on May 4 and a great turn out for our Health, Wellness and Lifestyle Expo, which was interesting and along with the three lectures, very educational. Even the over 25 vendors were pleased! And the three food trucks were kept busy — Healthy Fairs, Inc. did a great job. Thanks to all our fellow residents for the support… To paraphrase a so-true African proverb, "It takes a village!" IT'S A WRAP!
