58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2019 | Friends we will miss HOMER J. CROTEAU, 90, passed away on June 5, 2019, after a sudden illness. He was born in Worcester and lived in Oxford, Massachusetts, for many years before moving to California in 1978. After retiring from Hughes Aircraft, he lived in Sun Lakes, his last 25 years. He is pre-deceased by Beverly, his loving wife of sixty-two years. He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Balawender and her husband Michael of Camarillo, CA; his son John Croteau and his wife Patricia of Oxford, MA; his grand daughter Kristin Nolan and her husband James along with three great-grandchildren Ryan, Kaylynn, and Cameron; all of Oxford, MA. Homer loved to travel and drove cross country with his wife Beverly on many occasions and made several trips to Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time with his family, ballroom dancing, line dancing, sport fishing on Cape Cod and playing paddle tennis at Sun Lakes. Homer also enjoyed many Sun Lakes clubs and activities, he especially enjoyed attending ICC, Dinner Dance Club, and many card clubs. He was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus. Homer will be truly missed by his many friends, especially his best friend and soul mate, Jeanne McGuire. JAMES LOUIS "JIM" HAMLIN, James Louis "Jim" Hamlin passed away May 4, 2019 from complications due to a stroke suffered two years ago. Jim was born May 28, 1942 to James Young and Christine Key Hamlin in Anniston, AL. Jim attended a few high schools in Alabama including Alexandria High School, Lineville High School, and graduated from Ft. Payne High School. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and served for 20 years. During his time in the Air Force, he served with the security police, was a recruiter, and his last assignment was at March Air Force Base in charge of aircraft maintenance training. He retired in 1980 as a senior master sergeant. He then joined the San Bernardino Police Department where he served as the public information officer, conducted background investigations, was the range master and an accident investigator. He retired in 2005. Jim enjoyed all sports including golf and bowling and especially loved watching the University of Alabama Crimson Tide play football. Jim attended St Stephen's Episcopal Church in Beaumont where he was baptized and confirmed. He was active in the church serving as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer, convention delegate and Bishop's Committee member. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Owens, and daughter Amy. He is survived by his wife Mary, son James E. (Nancy), grandsons James Patrick "JP" (Nicole), Timothy Robert (Erica), sister Sylvia Harris, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. DONALD E. MCMILLAN, passed away on February 10, 2019, at the age of 80. Don was born in Excelsior, MO, on December 17, 1938, and settled in central California with his family in 1948. He is survived by his loving wife Arlette, son Mike and wife Shanna, and daughter Melinda; grandchildren Kirsten, Brittany, Chris, and Jessica. He was the original owner of A&D Golf Carts, enjoyed serving the community, and making many friends along the way. He will be remembered as a gentle man, friend to many, and kind to all. May he rest in peace in the home of the Lord.
