Many of our members participated in a charity tournament hosted by our neighbors in Four Seasons on June 8. Our club was pleased to be able to compete for a worthy cause and mingle with players from across the road. The results were in a little too late for this edition but will be shared next month. The USA Pickleball Association offers numerous opportunities to refine our skills at various lovely settings around the country. Next month, USAPA University arrives in beautiful Lake Tahoe. It may be too late to enroll for August's "seminar" but it's a good reminder to join USAPA and keep in touch with this and other events through the year. In case there are last-minute slots, we can't think of a better time to visit the most pristine of lakes so check the association's website if you can make it. Pickleball Ambassadors and volunteers pitched in recently at a Wounded Warrior gathering at Nellis AFB in nearby southern Nevada. Over 150 vets participated in a wide variety of sports including wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, cycling and many other activities. This year, thanks to our crew, many of the attendees were introduced to pickleball and loved it! "It turned out to be an experience of a lifetime for so many," reported one ambassador. In addition, pickleball gear vendors showed up and distributed paddles and balls to many of the warriors to take the game back home. This is just one more example of our sport's widening appeal and accessibility to people of all ages and stages of life. Local play continues apace, especially with spring getting drier and warmer. Many of us have never seen such damp weather so late in the season! We are blessed to have some indoor-play opportunities in the desert, Beaumont, and Yucaipa so old man winter's delayed departure didn't completely halt our festivities. Check out the club's Facebook page for details and updates concerning alternate play venues as well as times of our casual play evenings and afternoons. Regular club hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 8 to 10 am. Another good source of mid-day play times is our enthusiastic coordinator of afternoon/evening play Judy Luna. If in doubt about who's gathering when, give her a call/text at (949) 929-2390. See you on the courts! | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2019 | 49 Pickleball Club
