Summer is here! Along with the beautiful weather, longer days and many more outdoor activities comes a new set of safety concerns to be aware of. Marco Polo! Many grandchildren are visitors here every summer and utilize the pool. It is incumbent for each grandparent to watch their grandchildren when they are enjoying their fun. Remember, even though there are many others in the water, they are not always paying attention. It is important to always be aware what your grandchildren are doing especially if they cannot swim as there is no lifeguard on duty. Sunscreen should always be worn while outdoors. This can keep you from burning and will help to prevent serious skin issues. If you are in the pool or are perspiring during activity, always reapply. It is recommended when using the saunas that you are in good health and to limit your use to 15 minutes. Always drink sufficient fluids after use. Never wear metal jewelry as it heats up and can burn the skin. Never wear glasses or contact lenses. Remember there is no food and drinks or electronic devices allowed. Walking is the biggest form of activity in our community, either walking for exercise or walking dogs. There is always an abundance of people enjoying this past time. Please slow down and be aware of walkers. We have installed new crosswalks so please slow down and look for people crossing streets. If you are walking in the evening, wear reflective clothing, carry a flashlight, and stay on the sidewalk. Avoid walking in the street and walk defensively, being aware of your surroundings and limiting use of headphones or noise canceling devices. With the warmer temperatures stay well-hydrated, drink water before any activity, and always have more to rehydrate. Try to keep strenuous exercise to cooler times of the day and have a workout buddy if possible. It's always nice to take a ride in your golf cart in the evening and enjoy the sunset or just to get out and see your neighbors. Golf carts must obey the same rules of the road as cars. Four Seasons' rules for golf carts are in line with the city of Beaumont. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver license to operate one. If you are going on vacation notify your neighbors on either side of you or across the street that you will be gone so someone is aware and can keep an eye out for any unusual activity. Stop any newspaper delivery and mail along with any deliveries so items are not piling up on your porch. It may sound simplistic, but make sure the doors and windows are locked. It is always a good idea to have lights on a timer so it appears someone is home. It is always good at least once a year to purge your permanent guest list for access through the gate. Friends and family relationships change as well as housekeepers or caregivers. If they are still on your list, they will continue to gain access to our community with no reason to be here. The Safety Committee hopes you have a wonderful and safe summer! We meet the first Tuesday of every month at 10 am in the RCN building. Everyone is welcome. ~ Kathy Craven, kathycraven@ rocketmail.com 24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2019 Safety Committee The Lodge flat roof area recently underwent repairs to correct water leaks that affected the Bistro. The Facilities Committee is currently determining the best way to move forward with repairs of the water leaks on the tile roof area of The Lodge. The Bistro water heater had major issues and has been replaced. The Committee is anticipating the turnover of the Breckenridge gate from KHOV later this year. We are reviewing bids for security cameras that will need to be installed at that location. The Committee is also reviewing gate arms, speed bumps and installing the pedestrian FOB system at that location. The Facilities Committee has recommended repairs to the pavers at the Potrero gate entrance and traffic circle, and the traffic circle in front of The Lodge. Also the Committee has recommended repairs of The Summit spa plaster and coping. The Facilities Committee meets in the RCN building on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am. We always welcome residents to join us and share their ideas or concerns. We currently have several positions open on the Facilities Committee for anyone interested in serving our community. ~ Bruce Lewis, b.lewis2794@sbcglobal.net Facilities Committee
