38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2019
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN Room #3. Newcomers are always
welcome, even if you haven't read the book.
The Book Club selection for July is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Here is a brief description
of the book from Amazon.com: "For years, rumors of the Marsh Girl have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet
town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals
immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent,
she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in
the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town
become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens."
Join us to discuss this book on Tuesday, July 9 at 9:30 am. LaVonne Andres will be leading the discussion.
For those of you who like to read ahead, our book for August is scheduled to be The Ocean Liner by Marius
Gabriel. For more information, please contact Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen

Writers' Club
Summertime activities can be inspirational to both budding and
experienced writers. Think about the different summer opportunities
that promote creativity. Writers often respond to the nostalgia of the
fall and winter holidays, but summer is just as rich for content as the
cooler seasons. Summer family reunions have a different 'flavor' than
any other gatherings. Family dynamics are individual and unique
but each family has an Aunt Betty who spreads confusing gossip; an
Uncle Harvey who cruises around the different groups while drinking
his favorite brew; the bully niece Teresa who is a brute.
The Fourth of July stimulates writing beyond the red, white and
blue ka-boom. Pay attention to and follow the adolescents and teens
who conveniently disappear from the light show. Now, there's a story.
Be aware of and attentive to what the different sights, smells and
memories of summer illicit in you and respond by jotting them
down. There's a novel to be written in the fall and winter months
when the last of summer fades.
