50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2019 With the recent controversy over vaccinations, the Pass Area is starting to see a sharp rise in Zombieism. Our group has been formed to help residents prepare for inevitable confrontations. Here are a few tips we review in depth at our weekly meetings: Never underestimate the zombie: They are not mindless hunters. They are far craftier than one might expect and rely on the art of surprise attack. Never engage a zombie: Only stand and fight if you are cornered. If there is an opportunity to run away, take it. Keep calm and breathe through your mouth: It is difficult to prepare for the grotesque appearance and rotting stench of a zombie. It is important not to react with fear or horror as that may cause you to hesitate or even freeze. Focus instead on delivering a combination of defensive and offensive strikes that will buy you time to escape (see The Swipe & Strike Method at right). Watch for red flags: If you are talking to someone and they are deadly dull or hum and drool mid-sentence, you may be talking to a zombie. Don't panic. Discreetly excuse yourself from the conversation. The life you save may be your own. Preparation is so important. Join us Wednesdays at dusk outside the main gate. Pitchforks will be provided for those who do not have their own. We have a fun potluck on the last Wednesday of the month. ~ Jackie Chan Zombie Combat Club Our group is always looking for new people to join the regular players on Saturdays and/or Mondays at 9 am for an easy, fun and competitive game, yet in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We are always happy to introduce this game of skill to anyone who hasn't played before or anyone who might need a refresher. Come join us after your breakfast for some fun and fresh air in a beautiful setting and get a chance to meet some new people and to socialize with friends. Different teams are chosen each time we play, and the winning team is the first to score 75 points. A special thank you to Bill Baker for his efforts in helping prepare the shuffleboard courts before play begins. See you at the shuffleboard courts at The Lodge on Saturdays and/ or Mondays at 9 am sharp. Please call Marty Rotman at (310) 948-1693 if you have any questions. ~ Marty Rotman Shuffleboard Emile Pelletier, Greg Stilson, Jack Biersdorfer, Patty Harper, Marty Rotman, Leona Davisson, Lois White, Mike Corbett, Mike Zehner and Bill Baker THE SWIPE & STRIKE METHOD If a zombie has you cornered or bursts out at you from behind a bush or utility pole, the Swipe & Strike method is your best bet for escape. This decisive move is easy to deliver and focuses the strike on the zombie's nose, impairing its most reliable means of locating prey. SWIPE: Step back and keep your knees bent. Raise your arms and swipe the zombie's arms downward. STRIKE: With an upward thrusting motion, strike the zombie in the nose with the palm of your hand, turning your hips into the blow.
