Summer is speeding by and the Garden Club is well underway, including our new name! On July 22, we went to Temecula for a field trip and lunch. Venturing out before the heat of the day, we met with the Gardening Guides at Armstrong Nursery who gave us a tour, answered many questions, and helped us with our plant choices. We then enjoyed a relaxing lunch at Olive Garden, filled with lively conversation about where to go next, and potentially inviting a horticulturist to come out and speak to our club. The buzz about who we are and what we do is audible, as interest in our club continues to grow. We've even received a large quantity of gardening books donated by a resident. These valuable books will become part of our library to exchange among our members. As we visit with neighbors throughout our wonderful community, the main question is: Where do we meet? Meeting within members' homes gives us the advantage of experiencing each other's gardens so we can share and show off our greatest passion – dirt digging and planting! We're fascinated by what works in one yard, may or may not work in another's yard; east vs. west exposure, and so on. So, if you're wondering if this is for you, don't be shy, come check us out and see for yourself. All residents of Four Seasons Hemet are welcome! Our next meeting is Mon., Aug. 26 in the 'new home' of Debbie Maggy, one of our members. Debbie's address is 7715 Couples Way and she is the perfect example to why we formed this club. Being only four months new to Four Seasons, (from out of the area) Debbie is in the planning stages of visualizing what she wants her landscape to look like. What grows well in our Zone 18-19 climate is her biggest question, so she is learning a lot from our veteran homeowners within the club. For example, Sherry Thompson shared with us her motto: If it grows, it stays. If it dies, it goes! Simple enough. Me? I just keep moving it around the yard until it finds its roots. When the time comes for Debbie to submit her plans to ARC, she feels she will be well informed. Late Bloomers meet every fourth Monday at 1 pm. If you can't join us in August, we will look forward to seeing you on Sept. 23. Until then, enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds we are so blessed with here in our very own secret garden of Four Seasons. For more information and meeting location, please call Sharon Deuber at (760) 500-0077. 18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | AUGUST 2019 | Book Club All readers interested in great discussions, occasional guest speakers, and movies, join us the third Monday of every month.
