Lifestyles Advisory "Don't ever question the value of volunteers. The ark was built by volunteers, the Titanic was built by professionals." Author unknown We hope everyone had a great Independence Day! It was certainly a fun time here at Sun Lakes. Now we are in the throes of August, we would like to remind you to think about volunteering for the many different advisory committees. Fill out an application and turn it in either at the front desk or the administration office. We need volunteers for 2020 for the Lifestyles as several of the members terms are ending. VOLUNTEER: If you are looking for ways to decrease stress in your life, try volunteering! We know that may sound a little odd, but volunteering has been proven to reduce stress as noted by the Mayo Clinic's "6 Health Benefits of Volunteering" article. It also allows you to interact with new people. By donating your time to help others you may develop a new sense of appreciation for yourself. Learning to appreciate all you're doing for the community not only decreases your stress, but it teaches you healthy ways to manage your time and biggest priorities. It will also increase your confidence in your everyday life. It gives you an extra push to speak up for yourself or to make bolder decisions with your future. It expands your connections, meeting the members on the committee, to meeting successful board members, volunteering connects you with a side of your community that you might not otherwise have a chance to meet. While the benefits of volunteering are always evolving, there is one thing about it that will remain true: it changes lives. Your impact in Sun Lakes is needed on our advisory committees, and will always be appreciated. Please continue to send in your photos for the cover, and don't forget the fun Pet Page. We really want to encourage the different clubs to send in pictures from their events for the Lifestyles. This helps not only to encourage people to join but allows them to see what fun you are having. For photo submissions, please send in a high resolution JPG to sunlakesnews@yahoo.com. If you would like to recognize someone who was a good Samaritan, or just did a great thing for you, send it in to sunlakesnews@yahoo.com with "Things We Are Grateful For" in the subject line or drop it off in the box at the front desk. 18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2019 | golf Advisory Bingo Advisory Due to the Clubhouse remodel there will be NO BINGO FOR THE MONTHS OF AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. Bingo will resume on Oct. 1. This is the first Tuesday in October. Last month Bingo donated to The Guide Dogs of the Desert, The Make a Wish Foundation and The Unforgettables. Each one of these charities received $1,000 each. Pick up a volunteer interest form at the Main Clubhouse reception desk if you are interested in being on the Bingo Advisory Committee. We are so pleased to see so many new Sun Lakers coming to Bingo! We welcome you! Have questions? Call me 845-8700 (Anne). Golf season is in full swing this month. The course is in great shape and ready for all golfers. Work on the channel on #14, #15, and #16 is full speed ahead. Please watch for signage and directions from the pro shop on a daily basis. Our goal is to give the workers all the space they need to complete the job. The Sun Lakes golf courses are for golfing - not walking, hiking or just playing on the grass anywhere or near the lakes. There are other areas in Sun Lakes for walking or walking pets. It is unsafe for strolling and the afternoon marshals (Securitas) are monitoring the courses so please adhere to the rules set for golfers as well as non-golfers. Check in at the pro shop is mandatory for all golfers after hours. There is still a sign up in the pro shop for golf course tours. Take advantage of this chance to view the entire course. If you have an interest in taking up the sport of golf, please talk to a pro in the golf shop. All of them are eager to assist you with instruction and information. If you have questions, please contact the GAC at 951-769-6601 (Corky). See you on the green! Sun Lakes Advisory Committee Reports We are happy to see more Advisory Committees submitting articles about the important work they are doing in Sun Lakes. Our goal is to have all active Advisory Committees share their news here each month. Thank you in advance for everyone's participation!
