| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2019 | 3 From the President's Desk By Sandra Moyer I hope all who participated in the festivities of the Fourth of July had a great time. It is always fun but difficult for the Board to judge the winning floats and golf carts. Congrats to all! It is that time of year again – "the budget process." In your July Lifestyles on page 6 is the Budget Process Schedule. Here are some of the main issues facing our community. MINIMUM WAGE: Yes, we discussed this last year but remember it goes up $1 an hour every year until 2020. Here are the issues: 1. Difficulty in hiring good qualified employees to match or beat the new businesses moving into the area 2. Existing vendors will pass their cost to us through their contracts 3. People not wanting to travel to Banning 4. California gas tax hike not only affects our machinery use here but our vendors as well and it also influences #3 UTILITY INCREASES - especially water. Water will increase 3 percent a year for the next four years. So how do we balance this and try to keep our HOA dues reasonable? We all know we have been blessed with low HOA dues for some time, but factors beyond our control are making increases inevitable. Do you want services cut back? Do you want us to continue to subsidize many of our amenities which come at a cost? We can cut cable from your bill, but I guarantee you that $36 a month you are paying now will increase to at least $100 or more a month. There is much to think about and major decisions to make. So please look at that schedule in the July Lifestyles and attend the budget meetings open to the residents. Please let us know your thoughts, email us or management. I am asking the Delegates to reach out to your residents and report back to us. We are all in this together — let's work together for an acceptable solution. Mark your calendar for Tues., July 16, 10 am in Ballroom. Topic will be Vendor program addressing speed and stop sign violations. At this time, I have not been able to set a date for meeting on plantings on championship golf course holes 14,15, and 16. When solidified it will be posted on the website as well as the SL Facebook page. Food for thought: "The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion." The management team will conduct a New Homeowner Orientation Meeting on Thurs, Aug. 22, at 4 pm. Last month we stated the location of the meeting was the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. However, due to the clubhouse refurbishment project, we may need to conduct the meeting on the Veranda at the Main Clubhouse. Staff will be present to discuss the various aspects of Sun Lakes and answer questions new owners may have concerning the community. Please RSVP by Wed., Aug. 21, to the Main Clubhouse receptionist either in person or by calling (951) 845-2191.
