4 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | AUGUST 2019 Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee By Edith Reed, Resident One of the many goals of EPAC is to have our community prepared for a disaster. To achieve this we conduct a number of exercises throughout the year. EPAC has held three refresher exercises so far in 2019. The first was on organizing an Incident Command Center, what to do in a disaster, and we included use of walkie talkies. The next exercise was on what different Section Chiefs do, safety procedures to follow, and walkie talkie usage. On June 25, EPAC held an exercise on Triage and First Aid. The community was invited, and got to practice dressing wounds, bandaging and splinting. It was an educational exercise, and we had a bit of fun also. On August 20, we are going to do an exercise on Search and Rescue, along with walkie talkie usage. In September we will have a desktop drill. This simulates an actual drill except it is thinking and planning on what to do, not an actual drill. On October 17 at 10:17 am we are going to participate in the Great California Shakeout (if it hasn't already happened). If we are able to tell our first responders what our needs as a community are, the more able we might be able to get care quicker. They need to know if we have fires, major gas leaks, serious injuries. If we can do this succinctly they might be able to address the issues quicker. We would like to have all CERTs and residents attend our exercises. Everyone has skills to assist in the community. August 2019 Compliance Review As summer is now in full effect and our new management transition is complete, there are a few things to be aware of this month. There will be an ongoing audit of the community to ensure all properties are within compliance of current and past violations and HIA submittals. The most common compliance issues that will be addressed are: • Missing front yard trees • Parkway tree maintenance • Landscaping maintenance - bare spots, overgrowth • Faded exterior paint • Faded address numbers • Exterior ornaments. Please be sure you are submitting your Home Improvement Applications for all exterior ornaments, front yard furniture and keeping that lawn watered during this dry heat.
