SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | AUGUST 2019 9 July Showdown By Theresa Rossetti, Resident Do you travel during the summer months to escape the heat? Maybe you're a snowbird, reading this where it isn't 100 degrees in the shade. If so, you may stop reading this and go about your non- sweaty day (after you finish the rest of The View). If you are here at SDV, our association offers a number of things to do while waiting out the heat. Aside from our pools, exercise choices, weekend movies, and all our club and group activities, this month Lifestyle's offerings are a pancake breakfast, two musical presentations, and the highly anticipated Hawaiian Luau at the end of the month. Not enough you say. Okay, let's see what's going on in and around town to keep you amused. The Historic Hemet Theater has three tribute shows this month, the Ramona Bowl has a Latin R&B band performance, the Diamond Valley Art Council has a performance by Eva and the Vagabond Tales. All of these are within a 15-minute drive from your garage! A number of local wineries offer performances on the weekend. You can enjoy food, beverages, lovely views, and slightly cooler temperatures while being serenaded. Willing to venture further? Both Pala and Pechanga casinos offer shows. Pala's tribute bands are free to seniors on Tuesdays, Pechanga's aren't free, but feature performances from well-known names. Still bored? Check out Old Town Temecula Theater, or the Welk Theater in Escondido, or the Moonlight Amphitheater in Vista or the Candlelight Pavilion Theater in Claremont, for musical theater performances. Looking for something a little more simple to do in the comfort of your own home? There are many DVDs in our own Library. Take one home and enjoy. Want to see any of the summer blockbuster movies? Hemet, San Jacinto and Murrieta all have a theater and there are three in Temecula. All offer senior tickets and a few have quite reduced prices on certain days. Check out these places in our local papers or online. As a point of information, the expression "dog days of summer" refers to the dog star, Sirius, and its position in the heavens. The Greeks and Romans referred to these hot days as a period that could bring fever, or even catastrophe. Avoid fever and catastrophe by cooling down and doing something fun! What's Happening in the Dog Days of Summer?
