24 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2019 | The annual Art League Art Show will be on Sat., Oct. 5. in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom from 11 am until 2:45 pm. There are many talented artists who reside in Sun Lakes and will be displaying their works for judging in this show. There is no admission fee, and it's very exciting to see all the beautiful art work on display. There will be paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, and mixed media, as well as wood carvings, china painting, hand- made jewelry and much more. To those artists who are planning to enter their art work, the current rules (including entry fees) and the entry forms are now available in the racks by the Main Clubhouse reception desk. The entry forms must be submitted no later then Fri., Sept. 27 to Sharon Salcido at 871 Riviera. There is a box at the front door to drop off your entry and fees. If you have questions, please contact Sharon at (951) 845-8932, or email her at salcido41@ msn.com. Those artists who are entering their artwork need to be current members of the Art League. If you haven't joined in 2019, please call the Membership Chairman, Helen Searcy, at (951) 845-8198 and make the arrangements. Dues are $20 annually. Anyone interested in helping on the day of the show is welcome to participate and should also contact Sharon. Recently there has been a small group of Art League members, who have been busy creating and painting 25 large two-sided posters for a future Garden Club luncheon. Jerry Searcy brought several of the posters to the July general meeting to share, and they are beautifully done. The members who have participated in this project are Jerry and Helen Searcy, Betty Jo Ford, John Wells, Alice O'Neil, Patti Euvino, and Robin Warner. The winners of the Mini-Art Show at the July meeting were: "Best of Show" Robin Warner; first place, Bea DiMatteo; second place, Mary Chepovsky; third place, Mike Barrett. A special "Certificate of Appreciation" was presented to Jerry and Helen Searcy for their dedication, hard work, and organizational skills in the Art League for the past several years. This includes working on the award winning golf cart in the Fourth of July celebration, refurbishing the big banners that hung on Country Club Drive this spring, the posters for the Garden Club, and many other projects. The September painting classes will be taught by Bud Raji, the well known watercolor artist. They will be on Sept. 9, 16, and 23 in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 9 am until noon. The next general meeting will be Thurs., Sept. 26 at the South Clubhouse at 2 pm. After a short business meeting, refreshments, and the Mini Art Show, our guest artist of the day, Steve McGill, will give a demonstration of painting with pastels. Art League Art league president, Rosa Gascoigne, presenting a "Certificate of Appreciation" to Jerry and Helen Searcy for their dedication to the Art League over the past several years.
