| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2019 | 39 This group is designed to provide emotional support to any resident mourning the death of a spouse, relationship, child, parent, or beloved pet. We gather together as "hearts with ears" in absolute confidentiality in a safe shared place where strangers may become friends. Each of us is unique; our grief cannot be identical to any other, and the way to get to the other side of your grief is to "go through." We cannot criticize or judge. We meet on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. For more information, you may call Barbara Searcy at (951) 663-3382. Bereavement Group We meet Wed., Sept. 25, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The guest speaker is Leslie Williams. She is a storyteller, adventurer, writer, and will be sharing ideas on putting together a family story. As Leslie tells us, storytelling is an important part of her career today. She believes that every person is unique and has a story to tell, and she enjoys helping others discover theirs. She has interviewed and written four extensive personal histories for older friends and clients. "It's rewarding to listen to comments from the children – to hear that through my written words they learn wonderful hidden secrets about their grandmother or uncle or father. Some veterans, some immigrants, some uneducated – but all unique and loved." Leslie speaks and teaches in her community, and is beginning to branch out to areas around the country, inspiring students to discover their own stories, translating them onto the page. She is a faith-based writer who strives for excellence in an encouraging atmosphere – and every teaching is punctuated by her love for people and her curiosity for life. Sometimes the good is an obstacle to achieving the best, and Leslie shows her students how to use practical techniques as they aim for goals beyond their initial skill sets. She believes that creativity thrives in community, and this thread weaves throughout her teaching sessions. Connecting with others while learning a new craft, baking bread, or writing a short story brings joy and compounds personal power. Ask yourselves what others might remember after sharing your family tree; the pedigree chart of the family line, or the story of the friendship between your great grandfather and the plantation slave?
