The Friendship Club Yiddish Culture Club On Wed., Sept. 11, at 7 pm the Yiddish Culture Club will meet in the South Clubhouse as a tribute to 9/11, an infamous day in our short history. Many dates hold a place of importance in our lives and we all know and remember them like July 4, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1. We also have dates that personally mean more than others such as family birthdays and anniversaries. Then there are those dates that will live on in the memories of those of our generation, as well as those who are younger. A few stand out: Dec. 7, 1941, that took our country into the war in the Pacific; VE Day, as we saw a sailor kiss a girl on the cover of LIFE Magazine; VJ Day when we learned my father and some of his shipwrecked soldiers had been found alive on a Pacific island and were on the way to Japan. But the date that stands out in the thoughts of those living today, 9/11 will continue to appear in our history books. Tonight we will share our remembrances, especially by those who lived in New York City, and view a fascinating video of the building of one World Trade Center, built in the spot where the twin towers stood. One Trade Center is next to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The video tells the story of the epic journey of the construction of this cutting edge building which stands 104 stories tall and the building of the Memorial and the Museum. We welcome all to join us for this viewing and reminisce about the events of that horrific day. Refreshments will be served. There is no charge to members, guest charge is $3.
