Are you ready? September is packed with opportunities to get involved as an active member of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club. Tennis uniquely provides participants with enriching social, emotional, and physical activities. Everyone, from beginners to more expert players, is welcome to support their own health and that of other members by playing tennis. Whether you enjoy playing tennis or socializing with other members, there are numerous opportunities for you to enjoy! You are invited to participate in the next Free Skills Clinic and Tennis Mixer scheduled for Sat., Sept. 7. We host a half-hour clinic and social mixer on the first Saturday of each month. Come learn and refine your tennis skills from 8 to 8:30 am at the South Tennis Courts. It's great fun! You can practice ground strokes and volleys at your own pace with other tennis enthusiasts. The mixer follows the skills clinic, from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Mixed doubles teams play in a rotation of twenty-minute matches. Participants enjoy getting to know and play with established and new friends. This flexible format promotes the social component of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club. We all know that when we have fun playing sports, we are more likely to remain involved in athletic programs that help us stay physically active and realize the positive effects for our body, brain, and self-worth. The emphasis is on enjoyment instead of winning. The next Sun Lakes Tennis Club quarterly meeting will be at the South Clubhouse on Sept. 13, starting at 5 pm and will be followed by a pot luck dinner. All members are invited to participate in quarterly meetings to contribute to the thinking that shapes future events. For example, at the last meeting, members wondered if the Sun Lakes Tennis Club might consider hosting a tennis event that could be open to individuals who live outside of Sun Lakes Country Club. Peggy Huetten, Scipia Curtis, and Phil Hazelton will be reporting their findings and making recommendations at the September quarterly meeting. Other events scheduled for September include: Friday Night Lights (sallyjo1955@gmail.com), World Cup Tennis (crystalwater@ dc.rr.com), and the annual Men's Doubles Tournament (Sept. 27-29). Phil Hazelton will coordinate the Men's Tournament and information will be distributed to Tennis Club members. Look for the sign-up sheets at the South Clubhouse for these exciting events.
