Friends we will miss Henry (Harry) Lewis Knick arrived in Heaven in the early morning hours of August 1st at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Harry was born on December 2, 1935 to Earl and Elenora Knick in Wood County, West Virginia. Harry and Joyce met on a blind date in 1954 when she was 15 and he was 18. They were married two years later on August 11 in Lorain, OH and soon moved west to San Bernardino, CA. After 34 years of service, Harry retired from the US Postal Service where he was Vehicle Maintenance Manager in Redlands, CA. Once retired, the first priority for Harry and Joyce was to embark on a six-month road trip in their motorhome. Harry and Joyce loved traveling, camping, fishing, and Nascar. When the family wasn't desert camping or at the races, they were barbecuing in the backyard or swimming in the doughboy (above ground) pool. Harry was a Past Master of Damascus Lodge #648 and a current member of Phoenix Rising Masonic Lodge #178. Harry and Joyce became Sun Lakes residents in 2007 and were faithful members of LifeSpring Christian Church in Calimesa, CA. Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce, and his daughters Betty JoAnn Knick of Banning, CA, and Janice Earlene Black of Beaumont, CA, his son Gary Lewis Knick (Elaine) of Cherry Valley, CA, and his sister, Betty Rickard of West Columbia, WV. Harry had four grandsons, two granddaughters-in-law, eight great-grandchildren, and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great-great-grandchild due in September. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, E. Robert (Bob) Knick of Haddam, CT, his brother Wilbur (Bill) Knick of Lorain, OH, and his sister Peggy JoAnn Rea of Lorain, OH. Marilyn (Lynn) Blees passed away in May in Boise, Idaho at the age of 88. She and her husband Johann Blees (deceased) had lived in Sun Lakes over 25 years and were active participants in Sun Lakes activities. When Lynn's health made it necessary she moved to Boise to be closer to her son and family. Don Evans was born in Springfield, Missouri on January 3, 1935, and departed this world on July 18, 2019. Don had dealt with congestive heart disease for many years. He joined the Air Force as an aviation cadet in 1955 and spent the next 20 years as a navigator bombardier in strategic air command, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He flew B-47s at March Air Force Base, Riverside, B-52's at Blytheville Air Force Base, Arkansas, and FB- 111's at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas, and Plattsburgh Air Force Base, New York. In 1968, he was chosen to become an instructor in the brand new FB-111. Only the top two percent of navigators in SAC were selected for this position. In 1975 he retired and moved to Sherwood, Arkansas. Anyone who knew Don knew how much he loved his Arkansas Razorbacks. With a lot of time on his hands, he took up golf. The golf course was what drew him to Sun Lakes in 1999. That, and the fact that he loved to hear his wife sing and Sun lakes had a chorale group she could join. When golf became too much for him, he took up billiards. Don always thought the best of everyone, and always had a kind word for his fellow man. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lou, of Sun Lakes, his daughter, Sandra, his son Don, daughter in law Grace, and granddaughter Kelli, all of Cabot Arkansas. He was a member of the Friendship Club and International Culture Club. Don will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. 66 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2019 |
