8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2019 | By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly Charity Week is long gone, the accounting is completed, and the funds will be dispersed in the near future. This report narrates how the funds are handled and allocated to the various charities in the San Gorgonio Pass Area. Charity Week is one of the largest events staged annually at Sun Lakes Country Club. Its sole purpose is to accumulate funds to donate to the needy in the Pass Area. The entire operation is under the jurisdiction of the Sun Lakes Country Club Charitable Trust Board of Directors. Each year they seek and appoint a Chairperson to present Charity Week to the residents of Sun Lakes. For the past two years we have been thankful to have Beverly Simmons oversee our event. Moreover, we are fortunate she will continue to be the Chairperson in 2020. With the help of 200 Sun Lakers, they plan all of the events. The businesses of the Pass Area advertise in our program book, clubs and groups take out ads, and vendors donate products and funds to make our expo a success each year. When you consider all of the participants, it is truly a community affair. The Board of Directors evaluates all of the charities submitting requests for donations. They examine the operation to see how funds are controlled and spent. No out-of-area or national charities are given any funds. All of our funds stay in the Pass Area. Now comes the best part — Sun Lakers buy the tickets, attend the events in sell-out crowds and are totally responsible for the amount of funds we are able to give away each year. It must be said that our people at Sun Lakes are the most giving people on earth. They donate their time and effort and their money each year to the success of Charity Week. The past few years we have had $100,000 to give to our needy. For a relatively small group of people to reach such heights — it can't get any better than that. Congratulations to the residents of Sun Lakes Country Club. The finale is the presentation of the donations on Oct. 1. All of the recipients will be present and will speak about their entity and what they do with the funds. All Sun Lakers are invited to attend and enjoy the evening. The proceedings begin at 6 pm in the Ballroom of the Main Clubhouse and refreshments are served. It is gratifying to hear how our money helps the community. There are so many community events that depend on our funds, as well as students attending Mount San Jacinto College who eventually work in the cities of the Pass area. You deserve to attend and meet the people you help, they would like to meet you! District Delegate Assembly Report Districts 21, 22 and 23 cordially invite you to La Vie en Rose, a fashion show and luncheon on Oct. 4 from 10 am to 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Tickets are $35 and will be on sale starting Sept. 9 in the Main Clubhouse lobby. Any questions, please call Janna Waller, (951) 797- 3859.
