| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2019 | 9 The library hosted a very successful "Reading" for adults only in July. The Readers' Theater group magnificently read selections from Kipling, Asimov, and others, as well as Robert F. Kennedy's eulogy for Martin Luther King. We thank the Readers' Theater group for their hard work in bringing these works to life. The library will be hosting a "Holiday Reading Afternoon" for adults only in December. Once again, the Readers' Theater group will donate their time as readers. The December date will be announced in a future newsletter. A book discussion will be led by Nancy Bolton on November 16, at 1:00 pm in the Mykonos Room. The book under discussion is The Library Book. Copies will be available for check-out in the library during check-out hours. It is also available from online sellers. Attendees will need to sign up at the front desk. The library would like to welcome our new librarians. Mitch Adams, Barbara McCall, Ann Landau, and Alice Lange have all been trained and are working in our beautiful library. Although you have seen a review of Michelle Obama's book Becoming, it continues to be one of our more popular books. No matter your politics, it is a great read. It details her early life on the Chicago's South Side where her extended family was paramount, her diligence in school, and her time at Princeton. After completing law school at Harvard, she became a corporate lawyer. After a time, she realized this was not the life for her. She shows uncommon candor in discussing her courtship and marriage to Barack Obama. She follows with her participation in his various campaigns for office. Finally, she details her eight years in the White House as wife, mother to two young girls, and First Lady of the United States. GOOD NEWS! The library is offering a great deal to people who wish to become members. Pay your $15 dues in October and you will become a member for October, November, and December as well as all next year (2020). We also welcome those members who pay their dues early for next year. "We have an obligation to support libraries. To use libraries, to encourage others to use libraries, to protest the closure of libraries. If you do not value libraries then you do not value information and culture and wisdom. You are silencing the voices of the past and you are damaging the future." ~ Neil Gaiman.
