40 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2019 | Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge When we have an even number of tables and play the Mitchell movement a skip is required after half the tables have been played. Benno Rayhrer, the Founders Club president, explains the scoring using six tables as an example. "The standard Mitchell six table movement has a skip after three rounds where all E/W pairs skip the next higher table and move on to the following table after three rounds. Only five rounds are played. All pairs play all five rounds. Therefore each pair does not play one set of boards and does not play one opponent. Those not played boards and not played opponents are different for each pair. That m each pair plays a different set of boards and a different set of opponents over all. The scoring result is now depending on which table each pair starts. The scoring result will be tilted a small amount (max. 20%) one way or another and when the scores are close could affect the ranking." The remedy is the RELAY, see next month's issue. If you are a current intermediate duplicate player, a rubber bridge player who wants to learn the duplicate game, or a former bridge player (college maybe?) or taking bridge classes here at OHCC, then come join us. We are a friendly bunch. We play every Tuesday at 6:30 pm (check in at 6:15 pm) at Abravanel Hall or the Mykonos Room. Player donation of $3 is requested. Please bring correct amount. Annual dues are $6. For partnership arrangements please contact Phyllis Skall, (858) 405-2684 or email pskall@yahoo.com. Please join us! We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game, however if you decide to join the annual dues are $6. Bingo BINGO is back! Great payouts (up to $1,000), fun games, door prizes, and ice cream treats at the break are just a few reasons to come check us out. Our faithful players do all right! Just ask a certain someone who won five times last year, including one night when she won two games. Doors open at 6:30 pm and games start promptly at 7 pm. Cost is still $8 for 10 games. See you there. We will have BINGO on Sept. 28 and Oct. 19. Thanks to all from your BINGO staff!
