Silversmiths
Well, here we go again, not much, but better than nothing I guess.
These earrings and several other castings were done by Peggy
Newburg in the last couple of months. Many of her items, including
the earrings, were hand drawn to go with a ring she has, although
there are many commercial waxes available for students use.
Commercial waxes can be cast in their original form or can be added
to or remodeled to suit your taste. Burnable materials such as leaves,
tiny pine cones, flowers, insects, etc., can also be cast whether to be
used as a component in jewelry or just to have as a conversation piece.
Half of the fun is figuring out what you want to try,
Village Vets
Our Village Vets meeting on Oct. 27, will be very special. Our
speaker will be Melanie (Mel) Taitano who volunteers with Honor
Flight San Diego and serves on the Board of Directors. We are asking
our veterans who have been on the San Diego Honor Flights to be at
this meeting, and participate along with Mel, and talk about their
experience.
The San Diego Honor Flights are in need of funds to help with the
next group to be going to Washington DC. While the participants are
volunteers, transportation and other expenses are through donations
from people like us. As a club will be making a contribution and
hope other members will also.
Remember to save the date for our Village Vets Holiday Party,
Dec. 15 at Abravanal Hall. There will be dinner catered by Bobby's
Hideaway and great music by The Music Station. We are planning
to host about 20 active military personnel and spouses, two at each
table. If you want to think about inviting friends for tables of eight
plus two military, we will have more details in our October OHCC
Living.
