SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | SEPTEMBER 2019 7 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident Do you have a quirky relative who is often quoted at family gatherings? Maybe at this point in your life, you are that guy or gal. The title of this piece comes from one of my uncle's oft-repeated and fondly remembered sayings. Simplistic, I know, but the sentiment rings true. In 1972 George Carlin made famous "Seven Words You Can't Say on TV." If you watch anything on premium cable channels, you know that's not true anymore. A curse word, used judiciously in the privacy of your own home or around trusted friends, can be very cathartic. However, somewhere along the way, foul language in public seems to have become normal instead of frowned upon. My uncle would not be pleased! The Rules and Regulations document of our Community Association contains a section concerning conduct. It states "All Members are expected to abide by the Governing Documents and to conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while in the facility and Association common areas. Actions that jeopardize or otherwise interfere with the rights and privileges of members and employees, use of profanity, or otherwise abusive or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and may be subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Directors." While I certainly am not a prude nor do I want to go back to the "good old days," which, if we are honest, were not so good for many people, I am glad we have these rules in place here and wish we could apply them to everyone's behavior in public. My restaurant and shopping experiences would be greatly improved. Let's try to remember that it really is nice to be nice. If that makes me a "snowflake," so be it. On a lighter note, when our winter arrives, hopefully bringing with it much needed rain, I leave you with another of my uncle's favorite sayings. "It's good weather for ducks." A group of residents went white water rafting on the American River for three days in early August. A great time was had and none of them fell out of the raft! But they sure got wet! The rafters are: Alex Jeric, Sue Rossi, Chuck Weiss, John Rossi, Linda Weiss, and Andrea Jeric Never Too Old It's Nice to be Nice!
