We live in such a wonderful community, surrounded by the natural beauty of nature. It is all around us, and thanks to the serving commitments from members on several committees within our community, we also enjoy cooler temps because of their joint efforts. Natural plant materials, lush in greenery, breathe oxygen into our atmosphere, invite necessary pollinators, and create natural habitats for various wildlife. Whether entering through the front gate, with the majestic Lakeview Mountains ahead, or meandering along the shaded fairway on World Cup, once inside you know you're home, and the air feels cooler. Since our last article we've received phone calls and photos from residents requesting help with 'sick' or limp-looking trees and plants in their yards. We are not plant doctors, but we do try to help. Inquiring about identity, care and overall insight to how better enjoy your own private oasis, please consider joining us. It is why we formed this club. Our July excursion to Armstrong Nursery in Temecula taught us more than we thought we already knew. We peppered our guide Penny with many questions. Penny promised to follow up with us and was our Horticulture speaker at our August meeting. Summarizing A LOT of information, it came down to over-watering, or under- watering certain plant species. In addition, Penny shared with us that when a plant guide, posted on a pot for sale, suggests 'full sun' that does not mean Hemet sun! We are learning to better understand our sometimes harsh climate, (including how cold 'frost' is in our winter months). Our library of gardening books is growing, as are our experiences with plants, (good and bad). Our next meeting will be another Field Trip, scheduled for Fri., Sept. 27. This time we are heading a little farther south to Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens in Fallbrook. In addition to touring the gardens and shops, we will enjoy lunch on-site at Organic Café Bloom. During lunch we will be given a demonstration of how to build an essential oil fragrant garden planter. Our visit allows for plenty of time on your own. All the plants, fountains, statues, and garden accessories are for sale. Late Bloomers meets every fourth Monday at 1 pm. Our September excursion is an exception. We will meet in the smaller SW Lodge parking lot at 8:30 am, with plans to carpool by 9 am. All residents of Four Seasons are welcome to meetings and excursions. If you can join us on Sept. 27, please RSVP to Sharon by Sept. 20. Please note ~ We do not have a specific time for returning, so if your time is limited, please plan accordingly. There are also adjacent nurseries in the area that we might visit prior to returning. For more information, meeting locations and RSVPs, please call Sharon Deuber (760) 500-0077. 18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2019 | I love our field trips!
