38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2019 We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in RCN Room 3. Newcomers are always welcome, even if you haven't read the book. The Book Club selection for September is The Wright Brothers by David McCullough. Here is a brief description of the book from Amazon. com: "On a winter day in 1903, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, two brothers — bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio — changed history. But it would take the world some time to believe that the age of flight had begun, with the first powered machine carrying a pilot. Orville and Wilbur Wright were men of exceptional courage and determination, and of far-ranging intellectual interests and ceaseless curiosity. When they worked together, no problem seemed to be insurmountable. Wilbur was unquestionably a genius. Orville had such mechanical ingenuity as few had ever seen. That they had no more than a public high school education and little money never stopped them in their mission to take to the air. Nothing did, not even the self-evident reality that every time they took off, they risked being killed." Please join us when we discuss this book on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 9:30 am. Joyce Bricker will be leading the discussion. For those of you who like to read ahead, our book for October is scheduled to be The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. For more information, please contact Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen Book Club The Radio Theater Show will be presented on Sept. 7 at 6:30 pm in The Lodge Ballroom. The doors will open at 6 pm. It will be dinner theater seating at tables and chairs. No tickets are needed. There will be two shows. The first is a very funny "Burns & Allen" episode and the second is a study in terror from "The Man in Black, Suspense Theater" called "Sorry, Wrong Number." The actors will be moving around the stage, in costume, acting out their lines, while reading from their scripts. There will be scenery, props and, of course, all of the necessary sound effects. Now for more good news – we have been told that there will be at least one, possibly more, food trucks in The Lodge parking lot. You will be able to purchase your dinner and make this a Dinner Show. Simply bring your meal into the Ballroom along with your beverage of choice, sit back and immerse yourselves in these enjoyable Radio Shows from the 1940s. We are also busy rehearsing for the Holiday Show on Dec. 7 and 8. Auditions were held in August, but if you want to see if you can participate, please contact Cindy Graves. The theme is "A Country Christmas" and there will be songs by the Four Seasons Singers in addition to the show. We are looking forward to the new year and the shows that we plan to produce. Participation in the creative process can be done in several ways: submit an outline of a show you would like to see produced, submit an act that you are willing to direct, or submit an act or part you would like to perform. Contact the Performing Arts Club for the forms to do this. We are also always interested in just hearing people's ideas of what they want to see performed and comments on the shows that we have performed. We players are nothing without an audience, and we really want to put on productions that are of interest. Anyone is welcome to come to our Performing Arts Club (PAC) meetings that are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4 pm. We are also always in need of stagehands and other backstage helpers. We train our volunteers to help in the various areas. If you are interested in learning how to set up the stage, please contact Cindy Graves. Again, please come to one of our meetings if you're interested in helping make our shows a reality.
