FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2019 61 Paddle Tennis I have been playing paddle tennis for the last nine years, and I am still trying to master this sport. In talking to many players, we agree that it is an easy game to play but mastering it is difficult. The problems is that the game is played with a deflated tennis ball that is not meant for a short (pickleball size) court, and using a hard hybrid paddle only compounds the problem. This results in a common word heard on the court being "out." Furthermore, it does hurt should the ball accidentally hit your body especially when you are close to your opponent. Many new players have tried the game but have given it up after playing a few times. The result is that we have a small group of die-hards who, despite the challenges, still love this sport. So, if you are active, quick on your feet and up to the challenge, please come and join us. We play everyday at 6 pm, except Tuesday and Thursday. For more information please call Alex at (909) 746-7529 or Alan at (310) 251-9269. ~ Alan Chan FUN, FITNESS, FRIENDSHIP The Four Seasons Table Tennis Club is still decompressing from two very competitive Fourth of July tournaments, followed by a spectacular BBQ at the Summit that drew many members and their significant others. In the Advanced Singles Tournament, belated congratulations go out to Rony Tordesillas, Alex Cantanon, and Paco Paez for placing first, second, and third respectively. In the Intermediate Doubles Tournament, Perry White teamed up with Neil Edelman to take the gold; followed by Jeannine Baker and Rob Kelman for silver; with Mitch Harmon, Rob Gardner, and Sandi Butler-Roberts in a three-way tie for the bronze. Our potluck BBQ had a great turnout filling up the entire Summit game room and most of the outside seating. A big shout-out to our BBQ Chef Du Jour, Alex Castenon, who spent over an hour in extreme heat breathing in BBQ smoke that was swirling around in unusually high winds. A good time was had by all. Four Seasons Table Tennis welcomes all comers, regardless of skill level. We occupy the multi-purpose room at the Courts, with most days generally split into three sessions: open recreational play from 10 am to 12 pm daily; competitive rotation play from 1 to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday; and advanced play on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 pm.
