Bunco Happy Spring! Can you believe winter is about over and the flowers are blooming? It's a good time to come out of the house and join us for Bunco. We have a lot of fun and it is a perfect way to meet some new friends. This month Bunco will be on April 12 and 26. So grab a friend and join us in the Card Room at 1 pm sharp. Don't forget to grab a drink at Smitty's or maybe even lunch before. ~ Cheryl Burke & Suzanne Roldan Canasta #1 Come join us for an afternoon of friendship and fun while playing a game of Hand and Foot Canasta. We meet in the Card Room every Thursday afternoon, 1:15 to 4 pm. Each week you may play with someone different which gives you an opportunity to meet your fellow Four Season residents and old friends who enjoy an afternoon of "cool" cards. It is also handy to have the Bistro just down the hall if you would like something to snack on or a cold drink. We supply the cards so all you have to bring is your body and the desire to have a little fun. If you don't know how to play we are always happy to set up a teaching table and by the time the afternoon is over you have mastered the game. All you have to do is show up and leave the rest to us. ~ Melody Seewoster 28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2013 | clubs & Groups Taste d'Vine The April Wine Club meeting will be different and special. Why? Each year, instead of holding a regular Wine Club meeting we help host the Annual Corks, Clicks and Canvases. This is a collaboration with the Art Club, Photography Club and Homeowners Association. We will be pouring wine, listening to a live band while perusing fine art and photography. This free event will be a joy for all. Feel free to bring your glass and a bottle to share while enjoying the events of the evening. Not only will we have wine, there will be appetizers and tables where you may sit and enjoy your food and wine. For more information, see the Activity Director's article. We encourage you to invite all of your friends and neighbors to come to this free special event and see the great time we have at the Wine Club and to appreciate the many talented residents who will be displaying their work. So join us on Thursday, April 18, from 5 to 8:30 pm. This is going to be a great event. ~ Anita Worthen Bridge Join us on Monday afternoons, 12 to 4 pm, for an exciting game of Bridge in the Lodge Card Room. It will give the brain some exercise and we can all use that at our age. We play party type of a Bridge game where we rotate partners. This enables you to meet and play with different people. We play at different levels and are learning how to play the game better. ~ Bill Guy Book Club In July, 1890, according to art history, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield to finish the painting of clouds on his canvas and he shot himself. Or did he? In Christopher Moore's Sacre Bleu: A Comedy d'Art, Van Gogh's friends, a baker-turned-painter Lucien Lessard and bon vivant Henri ToulouseLautrec, have serious doubts. Their investigation leads them to the crooked little "color man" who has stalked Van Gogh around France, a series of artist muses and an otherworldly blue paint. In the course of their bawdy romp through the art world, these two manage to bring in Manet, Monet, Renoir, Whistler, and Gauguin as actual characters. What follows is a surreal odyssey and brothel-crawl deep into the art world of the late nineteenth century Paris. Christopher Moore weaves intrigue, passion and art history with cancan girls, baguettes, and fine French cognac thrown in for good measure. The book is written on many levels. It draws from the personal beliefs of many of the artists and the religious fixation with the sacred blue of the Virgin Mary's cape. Reviews of the book are very diverse because it can be read as a quick read to enjoy Moore's off-beat humor or as an in-depth analysis of the variety of artists in the French Impressionists movement. Even Christopher Moore comments, "I didn't have an art education going into this book, but I certainly do coming out, and I hope that the reader will painlessly and joyfully, share some of the enthusiasm I have for the subject." Please join us on Tuesday, April 9, at 9:30 am in the Lodge to discuss this fascinating book and to find out what the author concluded about Vincent Van Gogh's "murder/ suicide". Mark May 14 on your calendar as well and join the Book Club in a discussion of Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. ~ Bobbie Eckel Toastmasters Interest Group Because of the success we have had, we are excited to announce that Toastmasters will continue to offer Open Houses at each of our Wednesday meetings in April. As of now, we have added one new member… very exciting for us and for her! If you're not sure if Toastmasters is or isn't for you, the best way to find out is to join us for a meeting. It's only an hour to an hour & a half investment of your time. Not much to ask, to possibly make a major change in your life! And there is absolutely no obligation, whatsoever! We are a great personable diversified group of individuals, each of us in the group for different reasons. Several beginners, some with Public Speaking experience and others having been previous Toastmaster members. A nice mix towards having a good teaching group for beginners and new members. We might be changing our meeting times. Having one week at 1 pm and the following week at 6:30 pm, is confusing for some, so please keep your eyes peeled for the new times. I will have them posted near the front desk in the Lodge. I am 100 percent sure that our Toastmasters (Interest Group), will help each and everyone of you, in some part of your life. So, come on over to one of our meetings, check out what we offer, and then you can make the decision if this group is right for you! Looking forward to seeing you at one of our meetings. "Try it, you'll like it!" ~ Teri Meyers-Kelman CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2013 29
